Hi Larry,

Hi Larry,

I stumbled on this thread while searching for a solution to my Mits' convergence issue. After reading here, I ordered (2) 394-250 chips from MCM electronics and downloaded the service manual online for about $8. I took my time disconnecting plugs and made a simple "road map" of screw & connector locations. I liberated the PCB in about an hour.

Upon close inspection of the trace side of the PCB, I found one of the pins on one of the chips had never been soldered at the factory. I was tempted to just "touch it up" (but by then I already had the chips and heat sink grease). That was then I looked at the rest of the pins. Only a few seemed to have the mechanical & electrical connection qualities that I'd be happy with - so out they came.

I installed the new parts, reassembled and tested the TV. I went through the convergence procedure and everything looked good. I patted myself on the back and thought about what I was going to do with the money I saved. The next day I got a call at work from home telling my "the TV isn't working" and that "the colors are off". I thought "Great". I got home expecting the worst, but it was a simple case of readjusting the convergence again - but only slightly. It's been 2 weeks since then and I've had no problems.

A BIG thanks to you for all the help you've provided in this thread.

steve don't pat yourself too

steve don't pat yourself too much as you will need to replace those IC'S again soon as MCM does not sell original Sanyo Replacement IC's and did you install new heat sink compound on the backs of the new IC'S? Good luck!!!

Larry,

Larry,

I did apply the grease to the backs of the ICs. These are the ICs that I got:

http://www.mcmelectronics.com/product/STK394-250

They are genuine Sanyo branded ICs with the Sanyo STK394-250 part number on the package and looked identical to those I removed. Am I to understand that a different manufacturer is preferable to the Sanyo branded STK394-250?

Larry,

Larry,

I have a Mitsubishi hdtv 1080 model ws-48511. The red and blue convergence are screwed up and when I try to do the convergence through the menu, the red lines will not move up or down. Do I need to replace the convergence board with model STK393-110? How many boards do I need to replace and do I need to solder anything?

Thanks,

Edna

Skoolie1 said: I'm working on a friends Mitsubishi VS-55601. I read this thread from the beginning. I opened the chassis and located the convergence board. He bought the ICs mentioned (STK391-020) from the store you recommended. I replaced them but the TV is still not fixed. Could there be a fuse blown somewhere? The screen is better but still not watchable. How do I get in to the service menus? Should replacing the ICs make the picture viewable and the menus will make it better? I can see the setup menu from the remote. You can set the convergence with the + sign in the middle and corners but they don't seem to move or make a difference. Thanks for any help.

I fixed the problem. I found a blown pico fuse. I replaced a 2Amp fuse. Looking at the diagrams, this fuse was power for the convergence board. He said this TV hasn't looked this good in years. Thanks for the assistance. I could not have done it with out the insight you provided.

Hey Larry,
Hey Larry,
I hope that you can help me...again! I used your instructions to replace the 7 capacitors on the DM board right after Christmas...and now it looks like I am having a convergence issue.my set is a Mitsubishi 55511.
My email is [email protected] and I sent an email to you as well.
By using your information...it looks like I need  STK393-110 which I can get here http://www.electronic-repair-kits.com/STK393-110.html

What does IC8C01 267P155010 HIC mean?
And where are these IC's located?
Where would the IC's be located and how about the pico fuses?
Thanks,
Bruce

I have a Mitsubishi WT-42313

I have a Mitsubishi WT-42313 with STK394-250 chips. I ordered the repair kit from www.tvrepairkits.com for that model of tv. The chips that came in the kit are STK392-110. Can I use them to replace the STK394-250 that are in my tv now?

Thanks

Just as a heads up....you can

Just as a heads up....you can download the service manual for the 55511 for free here:

Hey Larry I downloaded the service manual again...

Am I near the right area? How does this IC come out? It looks like it has screws mounting it down?

Do I need to remove the center circuit board completely from the drawer?

I am handy with a soldering iron and familiar with PCB's...just not real hot with schematics LOL

This is what the screen looks like turned on...

Another view of the same board...where are the pico fuses as well?

The pico fuse I replaced

The pico fuse I replaced looked like a black resistor. The are about 1/4" long and 1/8" thick. Label on the board was Z900 - Z905. They were all near the power supply. Unplug the unit and test with a multimeter. It will show a short if its good and open if its bad. Unsolder from the underside and solder in a new one.

Here is Larry Dillon's response to me as well...for anyone else that may need this:use this address for a complete kit

Go to www.tvrepairkits.com to get the right IC'S.  the pico fuses are the F9A05 and F9A04.

There is a small tag inside the cabinet walls that show where these fuses are. You get a complete kit of picos, chips, resistors and pictorial instructions at the moment he best advice I can tell you at this point is to go to tvrepairkits.com and order the complete convergence kit for your model of TV set, no need to search and order multiple parts from different sources and pay multiple shipping fees!

The kit  comes with original Sanyo STK IC’S , not those cheap aftermarket or china made IC’S.

The kit has full pictorial directions, the thermal paste, resistors, the correct Pico fuses, AND free live on-Line tech assistance in case you run into a problem with the repair. They ship out 2 to 3 day Priority mail, the next day in most cases.

im really just trying to figure out which stk controls which color.  or else how to test the stks for failure.  i have already cleaned up the solder connections on all the stks(which gave me back the ability to move the crosshairs in the convergance setup) then  tested all the other components and found one blown inductor (10uh) and replaced it, but am still having convergance issues. i already have some arctic silver, and i have found oem stks from sanyo for my machine at electronica for $20 a piece, but i lost my job about 3 months ago due to layoff, and have not yet regained employment so cash is tight for me, so i would like to replace only the bad stk, but as my machine(mitsubishi VS-5043) has 3 stks i'm not sure which to desolder and replace.   Thats why I am looking for a free service manual on this thing............its either that or buy one stk, and start desoldering/soldering one at a time till it works again, which seems like a lot of extra work/risk.

Hi Larry,

Hi Larry,

Great service here! I have a Mits. VS-50705 that is having problems. It seems related to convergence, but not 100% sure that's the problem. This is what happens:

I turn the set on, and everything is fine up until about 10 minutes in. The screen then seems to shift diagonally, and flutter a bit for about another 5 minutes. It then goes back to normal and then about 10-15 minutes later, the screen starts to sort of roll in sections horizontally, and colors don't seem to line up. Hard to explain, I can get a picture soon if that would help. Anyway, this continues for about an hour, and then it all stops and everything is normal and perfect the rest of the time it is on...until I start up the tv again the next time.

Any ideas? I already just bought the service manual through your site thinking that might help.

I really appreciate any advice or help you can offer!

Thank you,

William

hi larry, apparently the linked company does not offer a kit for the mitsubishi VS-5043, at least i can not find it listed on their sight.  do you have another recommended source for this kit for that model?  i appreciate the help.

Hi Larry and everyone else,

Hi Larry and everyone else,

(I posted this in the comments section of another article, but this thread seems much more current - sorry for the repeated post)

My roommates and I (like many others) have a WS-55907 with a convergence problem. It started out as an intermittent problem that would only show up after the TV had been on for a few minutes (parts heating up and ceasing to make good contact?) and manifested as a misalignment of the red channel - it would bend down at the bottom corners and up at the top corners of the screen. After watching the TV normally for a few minutes, the red would just "pop out" of alignment in this way. Whacking the side of the TV actually fixed the problem temporarily, but it would usually pop back out in a minute or two. Opening up the back of the TV and applying slight pressure to the large convergence IC heatsink fixed the problem, so we figured it must be a loose solder joint. We removed that board and re-flowed all the joints on each IC. Upon putting the board back in and reconnecting everything, we found that the problem had gotten even worse - all three channels now appear dramatically out of alignment. Are the convergence ICs likely at fault, or might other component(s) need replacement?

Thanks very much in advance for any help anyone can offer!

Hey Larry and anyone else

Hey Larry and anyone else that may be able to help, I stumbled upon this thread trying to fix my Mitsubishi WS-65907 and from reading a bit it seems like you know quite a bit about these TVs! When you turn it on, it has horizontal lines across the screen about every 3 to 4 inches and they curve (kind of like the shape of a rainbow). I have tried plugging a dvd player into every input to see if I could get some sound or something, but with no luck. The menu will not display or anything, just the lines. If you could help me figure out how to fix this, I would greatly appreciate it! I have never worked on a TV, but I have worked on a lot of electrical things like computers, sound systems, cars, and things of that nature, so I should feel right at home if you can tell me what to look for!
Thanks in advance! Brandon

Hi Larry! I'm not seeing

Hi Larry! I'm not seeing anything too particular about my problem in all of these posts, so I will ask you if the convergence IC's might be my problem.

Issue: Mitsubishi VS-50111 turns on and screen comes on with a nice bright green color with lines with bends upward at the top and down at the bottom. This "Image" stays on for maybe 3 seconds, then a quick little snap and a flash and the screen goes off and the green power light stays on. Sound like anything familiar???

Thanks Larry!

Larry,

Larry,

Wow, on behalf of DIY Geeks everywhere, thank you for all of your input and advise! I have spent some time looking through the thread, but I haven't found anyone with an issue similar to mine.

I have a Mitsu WS55908 that works really well at random times. At other times, the set powers on for a few minutes, begins to flicker/bow ever so slightly at the top and bottom about an 8th of the way down/up and then powers off. Any attempts to power the set back on usually fail. Waiting for about 30 minutes allows the set to come back on for a longer period of time, but not without shutting down again at some point. The LED (Menu+Input) Diag I have performed has yielded code 23 or "Horizontal Deflection Failure" from what I have gathered from Service Manuals of the closely related WS55907 model. I have a vast knowledge of PCs and have experienced similar issues with improperly cooled CPUs shutting down when they get too hot.

My question here, is it possible that my STK392-570 ICs are overheating and going bad? Would replacing them be a logical first step?

Again, it should be noted that I have had several days where the set will work perfectly for the entire day or two (literally for 6+ hours on end), so the problem may be getting worse as time goes on. I appreciate your thoughts and any input you might be able to provide.

Thank you!

EDIT: Also, if you have a Service Manual for the WS55908, I'd greatly appreciate it. If need be, I can PM my e-mail addy. For anyone else, check out http://www.service-manual.eu/ for a vast list of other Mitsubishi service manuals.

Larry,

Larry,

I ordered the parts for my mitsubishi ws-48511 from tvrepairkits.com, installed it and turned the TV on. The convergence still looked messed up so I tried to manually set the convergence with the remote only to find out that it won't allow me to. Before I replaced the convergence board it gave me the lines on the screen to try and set it up but now there are no lines to set the convergence. What do you think the problem is now?

Thanks for your help.
