Video Playback / Recording Devices

Can anyone tell me why, when I turn on my VCR the picture on my TV becomes too bright and washed out to watch(except for the color red).  My Tv always has had a good quality picture... until I press the power button just to turn on the VCR, then goodbye colors, hello ghostly pale people... As soon as I turn the VCR off the picture and colors go back to normal.

I have a Philips TV model # 24RF505141 and a Philips Digital Video Disc Player & Video Cassette Recorder model # DVD740VR25.

I bought both units in the same brand thinking they would be easy to work together. Not so.

I can get DVDs to play on the TV but when I put in a VHS Tape it plays on the TV for about 3 seconds and then the DVD/VHS player turns off. If you turn it back on and try to play the VHS tape again, it ejects the VHS tape.

I've been through the settup and troubleshooting guide many times with no help.

When i hook up either a dvd player or xbox a opaque black bar scrolls across the screen  Some say it is interference from some a electical device or somthing to do with the closed caption.  Any help
