Video Playback / Recording Devices

I have a professional JVC BR-S610 VCR player Deck and the sound comes out low and fuzzy. Would an adjustment fix it? Or what can I do to see what it needs. The local TV Specialty shop doesn't seem to know exactly what to do.

I thought I was too dumb to work the thing, it locks up, looked like it was recording TV show, counter was counting, record light on, but, picture freezes, although counter still going. Disc wouldn't play back, message-invalid- this is disc that came with unit. Also just when trying to watch a previously recorded vcr tape, plays fine for a while, then picture freezes, but sound still going, now, it won't show picture at all, counter going, no picture. hook-ups are in front of tv, nothing has been changed or moved. Brand new unit. I'm returning it, but is this common problem?

The other day i went to put in a movie for my cousin and it shows that it is playing but there is no sound or picture. When i go to the menu screen on my vcr i have the blue background but i can hear the movie. i just used my vcr a few weeks ago and had no problems. i've doubled checked all my hook ups and everything is correct. can someone help me figure this out
