Mr Dillion- could you send me the repair insructions for a Mits. wd- 62725, please? I would like to try to repair this set before trashing it and buying another one. It has a constantly blinking green light and it will not reset. thanks.. my e-mail is [email protected].
I have the dreaded checkerboard problem, too. Had it about a year ago and took it to a Service Tech and when he put it on his table there was no problems. He said it could have been HDMI inputs that I had at home. Brought it home and had another year of no problems until this week and then checkerboard? Help!
Larry could you send me the repair information please, [email protected].
Thanks Larry, cour you send me the repair instructions that is referenced in the previous posts? [email protected] Do you know if these items are included in the warranty extensions given by Mits?
Hey slomo87 ...I had the honeycomb/checkerboard pattern too. "MOtvGUY" indicated to me on another thread on this site that it was the FMT(formatter board). I changed out my FMT board and that solved the issue. I found a local repair shop who was willing to sell me the board for $350. I have not bought the board yet but I also had a 52(WD52725) inch version of my 62(WD62725) inch TV. The FMT board part number is the same on both so I swapped the board from one to another and now the 62 inch works fine. I noticed the bad FMT board has some "puffy" capacitors on it so I plan to replace them and test before I give up and spend $350 on a new FMT board for the 52 inch. (note: I contacted PTS and the FMT board was the one of the few part numbers for that TV they did not repair. Twice they indicated they would ask their techs if they could add this board but they never called me back.)
I appreciate the responses, it appears that it could be the FMT board, the DMD board or the light engine. Based on don090 I thing the FMT board will be the first option. don909 could you explain PTS? Is that the Mits Technical Service? I am planning on taking the TV to a Mits Service Center tomorrow to have them check it out. How hard are the capacitors to replace for a novice? How do I know where to get the right capacitors? I have seen posts that have talked about replacing in the teen number of capacitors? This is very frustrating with a TV that I paid $4000 for not too many years ago. I have already replaced the lamp once and it tells me that I need to replace it again. Do you know anything about the new LED DLP sets? One interesting thing about my TV is that I had this same problem exactly one year ago and loaded it and carried it to the same Mits Service Center that I will be going to tomorrow. He put it on the table and it worked perfectly. He was very nice and helped me load it back up and it has worked well for a year. He said it was probably a HDMI splitter that I was using and I removed it at that time? Again Thanks! slomo
PTS electronics is a company that buys bad boards, repairs and resells them. If they do not have your board sometimes they can repair and return your original. I've never used them but several n this site do. You can find their parts list on their website http://www.ptscorp.com/television.html . I did not go to a mits service center, I pulled the chassis apart myself and swapped the FMT board using the service manual I got online. As far as getting the capacitors I planned on getting the specs written on them and ordering them off the internet. They seem pretty cheap. Not sure how hard they are to replace but I was going to pay and electronics tech from my work to swap them for me. I am not familiar with LED DLPs. Interesting that you had the checker board pattern before and it went away after a car ride. The FMT board has several cable connections attached to it. Is it possible some were loose and the car ride reseated them (at least temporarily)? FYI. My checker board pattern was made of small light blue and dark blue rectangles.
I agree about the checkerboard problem. The formatter board is the most likely problem. I have heard from others thatb the DMD will cause this symptom too. Try pulling out the FMT and reseating back into the main board. This has fixed two sets that I worked on in the past. Good Luck
Larry, I am having the same blinking green light problem with my Mits WD-62725. Could you please send the service manual/information to me at [email protected]? I would really appreciate it after coming accross this board. I just picked up this TV for free from someone who bought a new one - the bulb even appears to be good, I just cannot get the green blinking timer light to stop.
Larry Dillon said: Wilsonb, I will have those repair documents to you shortly. Good Luck with your repair.
Mr. Dillion, I am hoping you could help me out on my WD-62725? I just changed the lamp, and It won't stay on. When the replacment bulb was first put in, it turned on for about ten minutes then it shut off, with the red lamp indicator on. I immeditaly turned it back on, it then worked fine. For a few days it would repeat those exact steps. After a more days it would repeat those steps and it not stay on, I would then reset the tv and continue the steps untill I got lucky and the TV would stay on. Now, I have no luck the TV will only turn on for a few moments and quickly shuts off. Whats going on, we're on a tight budget, don't have the mula to have a guy come check it out.
Thanks, for responding so quickly. I got the lamp on ebay
ORIGINAL MITSUBISHI 915P020010 / 915P026010 LAMP BULB

I e-mailed them when it first went bad, and they sent me a form to fill out and return the bulb. Then the TV started to stay on but that was short lived.
Tim, thanks for the feedback. I edited the reply as we do not need to advertise for anyone. Once again thanks and we do welcome any feedback on your set.
Larry Dillon said: Yev, have you got any experience repairing TV sets or working on printed circuit boards? Can you solder? I will send you some documents on repairing the TV set, if indeed this is the problem, but you will need to have the know how of working on printed circuit boards. You will need to leave an e-mail address so I can send you the info. Good Luck
Larry, please send me the same instructions on how to replace the caps on the DM board of my WD-62725. We have a nice tech bench at work where I should have little trouble replacing them. The hardest part seems to be getting to the DM board. If you have any instructions or hints on the easiest way to get the DM board out, that would be appreciated also. Thanks!
I also have the blinking green light on the WD 62725. I called a local Mitsubishi referred repair center. I was quoted $900 plus $75 for the trip. I'd like to try the fix you've posted here first. Would you mind sending me the repair pkg as well? You can send it to [email protected] Thanks in advance.
***I moved the set about 6-12 inches the day before the green light started flashing, so I could clean the filter. I'm not sure if this makes a difference in your analysis.
I think I have the same issues with my WD62725. If you could please send me the repair instructions or any other documentation you may have it would be greatly appreciated. :) Still in the trouble shooting phase. [email protected]
I must say your assistance with all these issues is quite impressive, thank you for being such a great guy.
Great! Even for a repair like this, you are still going to save big bucks!

Yes Marc, I will send out the repair information to you. Good Luck with the repair.
I'm curious if those that have replaced the power board and/or the DM board have fixed the problem.
Also, Larry, since you are being so kind as to e-mail the repair information, would you mind one more? [email protected].
Thanks!

I really like this TV and don't want to scrap it.
Thanks!
The checkerboard problem is most likely the light engine, or perhaps the DMD board or the connections or plugs on the DMD board.

Tim, where did you get the replacement bulb from? A lot of these you order cheap online are Rejects or not the right ones for your set.

Tim, thanks for the feedback. I edited the reply as we do not need to advertise for anyone. Once again thanks and we do welcome any feedback on your set.
Sorry, about that. So, you think it's just a cheap bulp and not a bad ballast or something like that?
Yes it could be a bulb, but it could also be a ballast circuit. Only real way to tell is to replace the bulb.
Mr Dillion
I tried opening the set wd-62725 but could not get the DM module out. It just seems to be stuck. Could you please help. My e-mail is [email protected]
Make sure all the mounting screws are out first. Watch carefully for the ribbon cables and do not forch the connectors.
Thanks for the quick response. Do you have a diagram / manual to show which order I need to follow. Or steps to take it out.
Thanks
Rohit
