Virtual Surround Sound? Is the Philips HTS8100 SoundBar for real?

I just read an article on globeandmall.com about Virtual Surround Sound.  They were reviewing a product from Phillips (called the Philips HTS8100 SoundBar) that claims to be able to deliver surround sound rivaling 5.1 from a single speaker at the front of the room.  To accomplish this magic, the SoundBar bends sound around the room intead of shooting it out of each speaker in a cone.  See the following image...

speaker wire

We are renovating our house. My question is: Does the speaker cable have to be physically separated from the electrical wiring that we are running, and if so, by how much distance. My concern is that the electrical wiring might cause static in the speakers if the cable is too close to the wire. Is there any real need for concern here?

Crosstalk on receiver

I have an old Onkyo TX-SV535.  I am getting crosstalk on the AM channel.  When I configure the system freestanding, I get both the station I am tuning and another AM station that is 1/2 mile away.  When I hook the system up to run the speakers through my in-wall wiring, the crosstalk extends across all channels on the receiver.

 Any suggestions are appreciated.

kenwood receiver has weak right channel

my kenwood kr-950 receiver has always had a weak right channel, but now its about half as loud as the left. i've had it for about 23 years now.does anyone know what the problem is and is this something i can repair myself? i don't think its the speakers because i've switched them and its always the right channel.
