Im not sure how long it was in storage....but funny enough we just left it plugged in all day when we went to work and when my boyfriend came home, he hit the power button and it came right on...woo hoo! so now we just need to figure out how to read the manual and get all of our components attached....and figure out how to get the diamond screen off...are there any tricks to that?
hey larry figured I'd update you guys on the ws65879, has a tech come out it turns out the main power supply is skrewed ($500)... :( oh well thanks for your help
Jon, go to ptscorp.com, get the telephone number and ask them what they charge to overhaul the entire electrical chassis. I have heard that a lot of the Mitsubishi TVs, they charge like 300 to 400 bucks.
Larry, This is a very nice thing that you are doing to help people. I have the imfamous blinking light problem too. Just started after a power failure. It appears that one of my kids swapped the surge protector I had the TV plugged into with a regular power bar. I guess the good side of this is that the superbowl is next weekend. At least I have a week to fix it. Could you please send me the repair information. My model is ws-55859. It's a six year old 55 inch HD widescreen. My email address is [email protected]. Thank you, Keith
I am also getting the "green light of death" on my Mitsubishi WS-48513. Right before the Super Bowl...figures. Can you save one more victim and send me any detailed repair instructions you have for replacing the 4 caps. I've printed the discussion board, but want to ensure I don't miss any details. Thanks for being out there for us. My e-mail is [email protected].
Larry, I never received any documents for the repair for the flashing light on a WS-65813. Could you please resend to [email protected] or [email protected]. Thanks in advance! Javier
I've never worked on electronics before and had a few problems with this procedure. Just a couple comments that may help eleviate some road blocks I had along the way:
1) The chassis is very hard to slide at first...maybe there was some excess glue or something on mine, but it really took a good torque to "un-stick" the chassis.
2) The DEMOD card is also very tough to remove...be extremely careful to remove it straight up and not at from side to side, as I loosened the connector clips when removing it...hopefully this didn't break it.
3) Take the time to loosen wiring and clips so that the DM board can slide out STRAIGHT UP. There is a lot of stuff on that circuit board that can easily be damaged if the DM shield is not carefully removed straight up.
Other than that, it was a very easy process...I'm a little amazed about how cheaply these things are built on the inside. Case in point, my board slide didn't unscrew properly and I had to reglue the white screw plugs back in.
Now that I got the thing completely apart...anyone know where to look for a person to desolder the old capacitors and instal the new ones? No way I'm going to do that myself.
Can someone do me a huge favor and send me the digi-key part number for the Panasonic capacitors to replace the stock ones?
I'm a total fish out of water here and when I look up capacitors on Digikey, there are quite a few of different catagories of capacitor types (ceramic, poly film, dry film)...
I asked for the instructions back in late December, but never received anything (or else, I just did not know where to look). Do you send them by email and if so, are they under the Techlore's address? BTW - the blinking light stopped after I threatened to bring in a tech to fix it (my TV is still under warranty). Unfortunately, last week it (green light) acted up last week and is now working again. I have a service tech coming on the 31st, but I am afraid that he will say "can't fix something that is not broken". I will look back through the 100 or so emails I have received since December to look for the instructions.
HiTekBill said: Hi Larry, I have checked all fuses in the Power Supply board, FMT board and the DM board all tested good. Any suggestions what to do next? I do not see any signs of burned out components on any of these boards. I have the WD 62825. I have previous postings from this. I am at a dead end and I am thinking a bad DM board? Your help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Bill
Hi Larry, I did not get a reply from you. Did you have any ideas on this??
Bill how did you check them? You cannot simply look at them and see a problem. Man, I wish it was that easy. Have you replaced the capacitors in the DM board yet?
Larry, Curious to know how to tie in a PC cooling fan(for DM module) to the TV's converter. Right now the fan is running 24/7 via AC to DC adapter. I'm sure other's are asking the same question. Could you send directions to: [email protected]
I have the 65813 - also have the blinking light problem. I was looking at Radioshack but didn't see anything under 50v - am I looking for the right capacitors for the 65813? I haven't opened my set yet.
Larry - thanks so much posting here - I think I'd have spent $1000 bucks getting this repaired by the local dealer. I have teh general instructions for repairing the WS-55859 which say to use 1000uf microfarad 16V 105C. If there are specific instructions for the 65813 please feel free to e-mail me any tips to boe_d@(skipthisthisisforspambots)hotmail.com
Thanks - I found a part loose that I can't figure out what it goes to or where it should be - it is one of the copper flashing units. I have two in the back and one to the left hand side of the DM chasis. This one is about 3" by 1.5" - two squares with large holes next to one longer thin strip - 1" x 1/2" PN 292c982b10 I'll be happy to send you a digital photo of it when I get your e-mail. I have no idea where it came from.
Larry, this question is actually unrelated to the blinking light, but i thought you might be able to help....we have a bug stuck to the backside of the main screen....how the heck to we get back there to get itoff?? any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. THanks!
boe, I did send out the information yesterday. Perhaps the wrong e-mail address. Yes I did delete the spam bot you added. I will try it again this morning.

Great news man. Always great to fix something yourself.

A local repair shop should be able to help you with this. If you contact me via e-mail I can assist you in this matter or find someone for you.

Did I not send you the instructions as well as the service manual? If I did, there is a link on that e-mail. Here it is again. But Digikey has been out of stock for a while so I found some from Mouser electronics. http://www.mouser.com/search/ProductDetail.aspx?R=140-TG102M1C-1021-RCvirtualkey21980000virtualkey140-TG102M1C-1021-RC

If it is under warranty he should know of this intermittant problem. Insist he replace the 4 capacitors in the DM module.

Update - I've torn apart my TV :) It has 4 of the capacitors that I'm guessing need replacing they are slightly bubbled out at the top. They do say 16v 105c. I found some online that hopefully are the right ones - http://www.mcminone.com/product.asp?product_id=31-6995&catalog_name=MCMProducts
boe, I have sent out the repair information including the factory service manual. Good luck

I appreciate your help - I haven't gotten the info yet - is that because I'm pending?
