It is on its way. Let us know how you make out with this repair. But if you do not understand one thing, please stop and play it safe and ask me or call in a pro to assist you as you will get one chance to repair this. I have seen in the past, a few people have ruined the printed circuit board by over heating or not knowing what they were doing. If this board gets ruined, look to spend at least 600 to 1000- bucks to replace this board. this is why you need to be sure to do it right the first time. Good Luck

Wow, quite a common problem all happening around the same time for many of us.

Larry,

I have a WS-55613 and woke up this morning with the same blinking power light of death problem.  Can you please send me any information related to the fixing of the board.  Something I can show an electronics person so they know what to do for me?  I'd also like the service manual / file if that is possible too.  Thank you.

Hey Larry,

Hey Larry,

I have a Mitsubishi ws-55515. This morning we woke up with the non stop blinking green light issue. Reset button and unplugging did not do anything. I called around and am being given estimates around $400.00 plus they won't to it on site so I have to pay them to pick the tv up and bring it back. We just had a baby and really can't afford the 400.

Can you send me that wonderful file? [email protected]

I have no soldering experience. where wouldst one go to have such work done?

Hey man,

Did you get around to sending me that walkthrough? dont mean to be pushy, but im a bit ancy to see if this works =)

Larry, Thank you I recieved

Larry, Thank you I recieved the file and will download it shortly.  I also found another site talking about the problem & repair along with several pictures: http://www.hdtvoice.com/voice/showthread.php?t=18816&page=6&pp=20

Perhaps between different models there are different symptoms, but I see one that says the power light stays on for 60 seconds then blinks and goes out and another where the light just blinks continuously, like mines does.  I am going to pull the DM board out and replace the caps and hope for the best.

 Thanks for your help.

Thanks for sending the file.

Thanks for sending the file. I called a local electronics repair place and they are willing to actually come to my house to do the repair at a savings of hundreds of dollars. The biggest help was that I knew exactly what the problem was when I explained it to them, they said it would be no big deal to fix.

I also heard back from an official Mitsubishi repair facility and the repairman said that he had fixed this particular issue on sets like mine many times and agreed that it was probably the problem.

Then last night a monkey wrench was thrown into the works. I walked by the TV and noticed that the light had stopped blinking. Out of curiosity, I pushed the power button and the set turned on. It acted completely normal. I was like "Oh crap." what if it was a different problem all together.

This morning I tried turning the TV on again and it looked like it was going to come on. Then the blinking started all over again. The blinking stopped though after a few minutes but the set stayed off. I tried turning it on again and the blinking started up.

What makes me nervous is that the symptoms changed. Yesterday the light just kept blinking all day. What if the problem is different?

What do you guys think?

Edgewriter.

Mine did this as well, particularly after a power outage.  The reason I'm figuring this happend is because the caps had a chance to cool down when the power was off.  It would eventually come back up, but now my tv is down for sure.  I'm waiting on the caps from digikey and should be able to make the repair this weekend.  I will let you all know how it goes, and be making a donation to Larry either way.  SHAME on Mitsubishi for putting these crappy caps in such a high temperature environment with minimal cooling!

The repairman showed up and

The repairman showed up and had it taken apart, fixed, and put back together in about 40 minutes. Instead of using radioshack parts, he brought in what he said were the (top of the line) capacitors at about 4 bucks each. 25v. the old ones were bulged sure enough and now the tv works like a charm.

Total cost with labor and the fee to come to my house, $127.00. If I would have done it myself, I'm sure I would have had to take it back apart several times and put it back together until I had everything hooked back up correctly, so it was worth the extra money. Than you all so much for the help. this saved me mucho mula

Solo2GS
I got mine apart fairly easy.

I got mine apart fairly easy.  Capacitors are bulging.  Radio Shack in my area does not carry the required capacitors.  The ones they do have are way too tall.  Found a few at Fry's.  I have a 25w soldering iron (up to 750F), but seem to have a problem with desoldering the capacitors.  Can't seem to get it hot enough to wick.  Going to have to try a friend with another soldering iron to see if they can get them out....

Amazing how replacing $2.50

Amazing how replacing $2.50 worth of parts solves the problem!  Finally found the caps at an electronic store.  Had a friend replace them.  Took about 1/2 hour, put it all back together and the TV is working again!  Thank you for your help!

I was talking to a local tech

I was talking to a local tech. about the needed replacement of the capacitors and he agreed but added that he would do a more indepth repair since these TV's were made cheaply in Mexico and he stated that capacitors go out because of changes in voltage not just heat. He said that the solder in the sets are pretty bad and recommends checking it and resoldering a lot of the key components. He would also check for leaks from the CRT's and replace the rubber grommets, change out the coolant fluid, clean the boards, install a system to prevent any future coolant leaks from getting on the boards, clean the lenses, and realign the lenses. All this for $650. It sounds like overkill and a little expensive. Do you think this is needed or should I start with the capacitors and eyeball the other areas to see if further repairs are needed?

Larry Dillon

Hi Larry.  I too have the now

Hi Larry.  I too have the now infamous blinking light problem.  Had a tech come out and told me it was the DM Module, but didn't have him fix it.  My Mits is a WS-65712.  I've nearly read through this entire thread and looked at the module (haven't removed yet), and the capacitor issue sounds like a good place to start.  Can you please send me the illustrated version of the repair?  My email is [email protected].  Thanks in advance!

Hi Larry,

Hi Larry,

Would you mind sending me the service manual and any pertanent info that I might need to replace

the caps on mine.   I have a WS-65513 and the front LED is constantly blinking.

I appreciate all the help you give!!!

Thanks Larry and Techlore!  I

Thanks Larry and Techlore!  I replaced the capacitors in my WS-65712 (there were seven in this model), and it worked like a charm.  I got the capacitors from Radio Shack.  They are a little bigger in size, but you can make it work.  If you have the model I have and need seven, consider finding an electronics supply store as Radio Shack normally only carries a few in stock.  I had to go to three different stores to find seven of them.

Needless to say, I'm blown away by this experience.  The repair shop was going to charge me about $1,000.00 for this repair.  I fixed it myself for less than $20.00.  Probably more importantly though, I got piece of mind.  I'm not your typical 'tech' guy, and I was able to do this in a few hours total time (including drives to the store).  It's a great thing to be able to do something that you didn't think you could do.  Saving the money is the icing on the cake.

Thanks again Larry!  You're a doing a great thing here, and it is very much appreciated!

 Take care!
