Vinny, Not really a hard repair. Here at techlore, we have What's called the Technicians corner, located in the resources tab at the tope right on the home page, There is a Sony CRT Replacement procedtures located there and if i am not mistaking also a service manual available there for a free download. Go check it out! http://www.techlore.com/group/2/list_downloads. Good luck
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Most Sony TV's made since 1990 have electronic service adjustments.
This means that adjustments like picture geometry, white balance, and color
presets are adjusted via on screen displays, using the remote control.
Here are some generic instructions on how to get to the adjustments,
and a listing of the adjustments that may be made.
These apply to North American (NTSC 3.58) TV's only, to the best of
my knowledge.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Warning!
Please don't mess around with the service adjustments unless you know
what you're doing! Remember, if something goes wrong, don`t save the
adjustment! Just unplug the TV and plug it back in, and any unsaved
adjustments will be restored to their factory presets. Also, the TV
will be out of service mode now.
I strongly recommend that you get the SAMS or Sony service manual for
your TV before you change any settings.
As you modify settings, record the factory preset values so that you
may return to them if something goes wrong. Also, record your new values,
in case they aren`t saved properly. Nominal values are listed below
for most settings below. And, please, please don't mess with the ID-x settings!
These are different for every chassis, so the nominal values below
won't probably be valid!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Before entering service mode, turn on the TV and tune in a good
picture; turn it off.
Look at the jack panel on the back of the set; is there a service
switch? This is a small, round opening in the cabinet near the video
1/video 2 inputs or the antenna jack.
If so (typically on early-90's TV's), push a plastic pen cap or
similar device into the opening while turning the power on. The TV
should now be in service mode.
If there is no service switch (typically on more recent TV's) type
the following sequence on the remote (within one second of each other):
[DISPLAY][5][VOL +][POWER]
If that doesn't work, turn the TV off and try:
[DISPLAY][5][POWER]
The TV should turn on in service mode.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Press 1 and 4 to select the adjustment to be made.
Press 3 and 6 to make the adjustment.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
You must save all correct adjustments you make.
Press [MUTING][ENTER] (on the remote) after every adjustment you
wish to keep!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
To verify that the settings have been stored, unplug the TV, wait
a few seconds, plug the TV back in, reenter service mode, and ensure
that the settings are correct.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here is the list of settings.
(*) denotes set-up adjustments- return them to their nominal values
after alignment.
I think I have a convergence problem with my KP-51WS500. I was wondering if I
could send you a picture of my screen and you could tell me if you think replacing the two STK392-560 would fix my problem.
I turned on my tv this morning and I think I am having a similar problem. THe picture is bowed out and has red and green ghosting like a prism. Can I get a copy of the service manual sent to [email protected]? If I could fix it on my own I would rather do that than pay a repair guy. You seem to be the only person on the net with info about the KP51Ws500.
Hello to all,
Larry I too am having troubles with my sony KP-51WS500
I searched online to find a way to fix a redish shadow effect there was/is
on the screen ( red shadows or ghost shadows seem to appear under some of the images. I saw a troubleshoot about turning the 3 bottom dials behind the speaker cover and with slight adjustments I was able to clear up the ghost/double images
a little but there are still some red shadows on the picture.
also upon reading this board
I see there is a diagnostic to the blinking standby light
when I turn off the unit there are 5 blinks of the red light.
I really liked this tv and for the money Im surprised
that it would be having troubles after only 5 1/2 short years.
(the label on this unit states production at nov. 2002)
I dont know anything about tv repair but I have found this site helpful.
so I too ask, could you please send me the service manual ?
( SONY KP-51WS500)
my email addy is [email protected]
I would be truly greatful
THANK YOU
I think it is wonderful that with the vastness of the net
that there are people out there willing to help
other in situations like this.
once again than you.
I have a sony kp-51ws500, i have a picture but it is concaved at the top, and convexed at the bottom. There are 3 images of everything one is red, yellow, and green. What could it be? or what should i do? I've seen people on the site talking about the front light blinking, if i turn it off and right back on it blinks 4 times..if i turn it off and leave it off for a while and then turn it on it blinks 6 times...
ye3a, it is a convergence problem, there is a ton of stuff on this subjust here on tHIS site, you cn do a search on the home page of the artcles as well as the threads.
I have been trying to research this for a few days now
but im really only able to find information about the focus knobs behind the speaker dash,
where can I find the "blinking diagnostic codes"
I have tried searching this site but I have not yet become familair
with all the features of this forum as of yet
I do thank those here that take the time out to help
those that are uninformed
THANK YOU
Larry Dillon said: Well you could always go to http://www.servicemanuals.net and buy one there for about 25 or 30 bucks, or you could leave an e-mail address and I will send you one if you like. When you say you have had this set worked on before a few times, was it for the convergence problem? If it was, maybe the right IC's were not used. When you look at the convergence IC's, the proper IC's should have Sanyo printed on them, or they are inexpensive after-market parts. You can go to mcmelectronics.com and enter the STK number that is in that set and get the proper ones without spending an arm and a hand for them. Good Luck and let us know how you make out with this repair.
could you please send a copy of the sony kp-51ws500 asiam trying to replace the green and blue tubes
That service manual is available for a free download in the technicians corner section here at the technicians corner. sinply go to the home page, click on the resources tab, then click on the technician's box then veiw list.
