Larry,

Larry,

The caps from Digikey are on a 13 week lead time. Any suggestions on where I can purchase the capacitors? Is it worth the pain to call Mitshubishi for the original caps? Do they supply the Caps?

Thank again for all your help.

Go to mouserelectronics.com

Go to mouserelectronics.com They have a ton of hi-temp capacitors for you to pick from. If you want, you can get their toll free number from the web-site and call them and tell them what you need. Good Luck

chuckleberry said: Hey Guys, I found this string on HDTVVoice.com and started researching this Dm Module thing. There were quite a few people that had this same problem, one guys even said it was the "blinking green light of death". Anyhow, I read all about this issue and one of the people said that you could fix it. The common problem between all of them was intermittent shutdown or complete shutdown with a steady blinking light. This is what they said to do... if you pulled the DM out and then took the board out of it you will find that 4-1000ui 16 v capacitors are puffed at the top suggesting that there has been too much heat, I took the Dm out and did as they said and WOW..sure enough the 4 caps were puffed and bad, I went to Radio Shack and bought 4 new 1000ui 35 v caps, I desoldered the puffed ones and re-installed the new caps. Then I put the DM back onto the board, I didn't want to completely put the chassis back in case it didn't work, but I fired it up and IT WORKS. Those guys who were brave enough to try it actually saved me the cost of a new Tv or the $1000+ it was supposed to have cost to repair. I am in the process of contacting Mitsubishi to make them aware of this and to see if they can possibly get a recall on this. According to the guys who came out and looked at my set, the DM modules are on permanent backorder, so it must be a wide spread problem. Hope this helps a lot of people.

I have the exact same problem.  My tv started blinking and would reset but eventually had the blinking green light of death.  Can anyone give me specific instructions on removing the DM.

Thanks,

Tireman

Whats the e-mail address tireman? I have the factory service manual as well as complete repair instructions if you wish to try to repair your TV set.

Larry,

Larry,

After reading the posted instructions I think I am on the right path.  This has been a tremendous help as I was quoted almost $800.00 for repair on a 2 1/2 yr old tv.  I refused to pay that because I didn't want to invest more money in a tv with such a short lifespan.  My wife was persuading me to roll this $2400 tv to the curb thursday.  I am glad you guys are out there to help.  My kids would especially like to thank you as I have already purchased a LCD 1080p replacement.  Now my kids will be playing video games on an expensive tv.  I am really busy at work, so it may be this weekend before repair is complete.  I will let you know how it turns out.

Thanks again,

Tireman

Bob 123, did you fix your TV

Bob 123, did you fix your TV set? I hope you have gotten the right capacitors. In reallity, any 1000 mfd @ 16 volt capacitors will work. Good Luck.

Here is a fun one for you all

Here is a fun one for you all..  :-)  I also had the blinking light of death on my 4-yr old Mitsubishi POS.  I opened it up, determined the capacitors were the issue, replaced them, put the TV back together, and it came right on.  Guess how happy I was.

I then started noticing how bad the picture was (as I had the TV open for a while between first looking into the issue and finding the posts about the capacitor issue).  I decided I needed to clean the guns so I opened it back up, cleaned them, put it back together enough to get the TV to come on, and then noticed the picture looked a ton better.  I then turned the TV off and reinstalled the back cover, but now the POS won't turn back on.

I know there is an issue with the TV not turning on if the cabinet isn't installed properly, but I have looked through the TV and I have found nothing wrong.  There are no blinking lights after the DM μPC finishes booting up so this generally indicates the electronics are fine.  Does anyone know exactly what the Mitsubishi’s are using to detect if the cabinet is installed properly?  A switch maybe or screw placement?

Thank you in advance!

Our Mitsubishi 55613

Our Mitsubishi 55613 developed the blinking light of death two weeks ago.  The repair guy wanted $500  to do what sounded like the fix you have talked about on here.  So after a trip to Radio Shack,  I took that thing apart and replaced the capacitors.  Our big black paperweight is once more a functioning TV and the best part is that<> my husband is thrilled and bragging to everyone about his talented wife.

Thanks to everyone for helping me make major points with my DH and for the look on the kid's face at Radio Shack when we went back and told him it was a TV again.

Hi Everyone - we have the

Hi Everyone - we have the 55613 and instead of having the blinking lights, today the TV just turned itself off and it won't turn back on.   We have tried multiple power sources including using an APC UPS, plugging straight into the wall, etc.  We have hit the reset button on the front and every time we plug it in and hit the power button - nothing.  No power, no green lights, no nothing.  Any clues on that?  Do you think it is the same capacitor problem?  The TV is a little over 4 years old.  Thanks for any help!

Hi - after spending all day

Hi - after spending all day with this silly tv - it seems the DM is not the problem.  We took the board out and looked at the capacitors and everything looks fine with them.  The fuse near the power cord is not burnt out either.  If we only had the blinky green light problem, we could have fixed it by now from all the suggestions on the board.  oh well :)  Any suggestions before we call someone or just replace the tv?  Any help is much appreciated, thanks!

Larry Dillon
The last two posters should

The last two posters should check the fuses to the positive and negative power supplies. Check the F9A04 and F9A05. If these are open, as they should measure a short, DO NOT SIMPLY REPLACE THEM!! These fuses DO NOT blow themselves. If you do, you will cause more damage to your TV set. Replace the convergence IC. STK 393-110, then replace the fuses. Good Luck with your repair.

Don't discount the capacitors

Don't discount the capacitors yet. Mine showed no visible signs of having failed, but, based on everyone else's positive experiences by changing them out, I decided to change them anyway. It solved the problem. I also measured the removed caps (resistive readings) and found them to be way out of spec; so they were defective, only not obvious from their outward appearance.

Keljo
Ok Laurence, thanks for the

Ok Laurence, thanks for the info.  Did you not have any lights on the front though, or did you have the blinking light problem?  Our problem is we are not getting any lights at all, no blinky no nothing.

Larry,

Larry,

Could I get the info as well? I had the "green blonking light", finally the set came on, but then it looks like the 2 of the 3 crts have lost there "hold" on the screen (the are mostly squished).

Janet,

I have the same television with the same problem.  Can you advise of the parts and where to get the manual to fix it.
