Green Blinking Light on Mitsubishi HDTV

My WS55511 Mitubishi will not turn on.  It power up for about 3 seconds and powers back down.  The green light blinks for a time if I hit the reset button, but it does not help the problem.  It sounds like the DM board problem that others on this forum have described.  I was hoping maybe someone could help me with obtaining the repair details on replacing the capacitors on the DM board.  I know how to solder OK and I believe I could do the repair, but I want to make sure I'm doing the right ones.  Can someone let me know how to get the repair instructions?  Thanks.

Sure I could send them to you

Sure I could send them to you if I knew your e-mail address. This repair has helped a lot of peeps fix their sets, but there are some that it does not. Always worth a try I guess.

Sorry, I thought my email was available to other members.  It is [email protected].  What are some of the other possible causes?  My condition sounds very similar to the other posts that used your repair.  Thanks.

Larry,

Larry,

My email address is [email protected].  I don't know if you read my last post.  I was hoping to get the repair instructions when you get a chance.  Thanks.

Gary, I have sent you the documents you requested. You will need to use a couple of the different documents to disassemble the TV set but use the main one with the pictures to show you what the capacitors look like when they are bad. If they do not look bad, replace them anyway since you have the set apart. Good Luck

Larry,

Larry,

Thanks for the info.  I took the set apart as you said.  The capacitors don't appear to be bulging.  It will take some time as I had to order them and they are on back order for now unless I can find them somewhere else.  I had no luck in the Dallas area finding high temp capacitors.  I'll let you know how it works out when I get them.

Hi,

Hi,

I have a Mitsubishi WS-55813 with the blinking green light problem. I have pressed the reset button and the light continues to blink. I have unplugged the TV for 24 hours plugged it back in and the light still blinks.

I worte Mitsubishi last week, stating that I have seen many post on the internet about this problem and asked if there was a recall. I have not received a reply. I will post it when I receive it.

I have had my TV for 3 years and 8 months. Could I get a copy of the repair instruction and/or the service manual. My email is [email protected].

Thanks

Paul

Thanks Larry.  I thought once

Thanks Larry.  I thought once upon a time that Mouser didn't sell to the public, but they do now if that was ever the case.  I ordered them from there.  They were in stock.  Not the same manufacturer, but I looked at the spec sheet on Digikey's website for the Panasonic caps and was able to use Mouser's filters to find an equivalent cap, dimensions and all.  The P/N for the Mouser caps is 661-KME16VB102M.  The manufacturers P/N is KME16VB102M10X20LL.  They were $0.30 each plus shipping.

Larry,

Larry,

I'm bummed out.  Replacing the capacitors did not solve the problem.  When I first plug in the set, the green light blinks for about a minute and goes out.  Reading in the Service Manual on pg 30, I see that this is normal.  When I turn the set on, it clicks, the green light lights up solid and it acts like it's going to come on.  However, it only stay on for about 3 or 4 seconds then it clicks and the green light goes out.

I did the Error Code Diagnostics test the manual describes on pg 30 and came up with a code "22".  It says the probable cause is "short protect", but I don't see anything in there about what to do about it.  Any ideas?  Thanks.

Convergence IC's most likely,

Convergence IC's most likely, If that's not the problem, check the Horizontal sweep power supply

aerosvc
Larry,

Larry,

I've been out for a while.  Had to earn a living.  I have looked into the Convergence IC's.  I found the convergence PCB and didn't see any obvious defects.  Looking at a former post by "Falcon935" on 8/31/2007, I saw he had a similar problem with a WS-55511.  He mentions an IC that is about 1"X3".  I don't see anything like that on the Convergence PCB.  He also mentions a couple of pico fuses that were blown.  I have located several pico fuses on the Power PCB, but I don't know which ones to check.  Also, I don't know where to start looking for the  Horizontal sweep power supply.  The Svc Mnl index says the schematics are in Section 2, but that section was not in the pdf you sent me.  Could I get the schematics from you?  I think it might help me troubleshoot this and locate the components I need to check.  Thanks.

The convergence IC is on a large metal heat sink, it has fins on it. I thought I sent the entire manual. There should have been a part 2 with it. I will look at it, what is your e-mail address again.

Larry,

Larry,

You da man!  I found the convergence IC and the two associated pico fuses were blown.  I removed parts and ordered the fuses and IC.  I received them today and after soldering them in, I powered the set up.  The green light blinked for about a minute and I turned it on and it works.  Thanks so much for the continued help!

Sincerely,

Gary Thompson

Hope you got good quality IC

Hope you got good quality IC's and not at a bargin price. I also hope the IC's have Sanyo writte on them. But I am glad you were able to fix your TV set and save several hundred bucks.  Oh also, did you put new heatsink compound on the backs of the new ICs before you installed them?

aerosvc
I hope I got a good I/C also.

I hope I got a good I/C also.  I ordered from Bluestar, but I spoke to a rep on the phone and asked who the mfg was.  He told me Sanyo, so I'm hoping he is telling the truth.  I didn't see Sanyo written on it, but it wasn't written on the other one either.  I did put new compound on the I/C.

Larry,

Larry,

This morning my Mitsubishi WS-48513 Late 5D HDTV has joined the crowd of other users with the flashing green light of death. I have tried all the recommended solutions to power up but it still continues to flash. I would greatly appreciate receiving your repair information on the capacitor problem. From all the comments that I have read about this problem, you seem to be the MAN. My email is wjf1atcomcast.net.

I would like to thank you in advance for any assistance you may be able to provide.

Hi Larry,

Hi Larry,

You send the files about noon and I was watching the 5 o'clock news on my "new" TV. Great instructions! I will probably install a fan next week (not enough time now).

I found the 4 caps locally for a total of $8.54.

Thanks again!

Mike
