mitsubishi ws-55613 repair

We have the same problem with the blinking light.  We tried unplugging it for a while, and hitting the reset button.  It will not power on.  Could we, please, get some help?  Thank you!!

I to have a mitubishi ws

I to have a mitubishi ws 55613 and my green light is blinking. Repair guy said it would be $500 bucks to fix. Any ideas on how to fix without paying all the money.

Thank You

Hi Larry, another blinking

Hi Larry, another blinking green light of death. I understand that you have a solution to the problem. Just my 2 cents worth. If we leave the tv alone and don't try to turn it on the light will eventually stop and the tv will turn on. It may work a few hours or a few days. The light my blink for a few hours or a few days. No rhyme or reason. I haven't read all the forum but some people were wondering about a surge supression helping the problem. I have had a Monster Power surge protection and filter. This is a $700 unit and Monster garuntees to replace anything lost if you are hit with a surge. I have had my WS 55516 on it since day one. Could you pleae forward the repair information to me? Thank you in advance.

How many times does it blink? Or does it blink forever?

No problem to figure it ,I am a tv repairman.Just need more info.

Should have bad caps in the DM module.A common failure -almost all are going bad.

ntreed, the fact that the set

ntreed, the fact that the set will eventually come on when the light stops blinking is for sure an indication that the capacitors in the DM is going bad and if left unchecked and you do not replace them asap, you will destroy the DM board itself. Are you sure of the model number though. Is it a WS-55513? If it is, and you can solder, there are some documents you will need to do this repair. You can save big bucks doing this yourself or having a friend who knows how to solder do it for you. Leave an e-mail address if you would like the repair information. Good Luck

Make sure you replace all the 1000/16v caps

Yes it most likely is the

Yes it most likely is the capacitors but they should be replaced at the very first sign of a problem, such as wiggly lines, the set gets unplugged and light blinks for a short time and comes back on. Sure tale sign that the capacitors are going bad. I have repaired at least 300 of these sets and more on-line.

Larry--you are a very busy man...  Just wanted to see if you can pass me the fix info for the DM module and service manual I may need to fix my blinking light issues whenever you get a chance.  I have the WS-55513 and have the problem of no power up.  Quite frustrating I must say.

My email address is [email protected]

Thanks...Dan

Ok, I too have the blinking

Ok, I too have the blinking green light of death, and it is lasting hours so far.  My Mitsubishi WS-55613 is a few years old now, and besides the blinking green light, lately when powered on, the picture is wavy for a few minutes.  I am hoping that Larry can help.

I am a former electrician in the Navy, so doing the work myself would not be an issue, but I really need some guidance.  Thanks on Advance.

The wavy picture when you

The wavy picture when you first turn on the TV set is the first indication that the capacitors were going bad. Hopefully it is not to late. I will send out the repair documents and service manual. Good luck with the repair.

Thanks to Larry for the quick

Thanks to Larry for the quick response.  I could only find 50v 105v 1000 micro-farad caps at the store, will upping the voltage be a problem, or should I do a straight 16v replacement?

Larry Dillon
Use the link I sent to you to

Use the link I sent to you to order the right capacitors. most of the time the 50 volt caps are way to big for the case and forceing them into the board could break it.

bigjer25
Ok so far the journey has

Ok so far the journey has been fun, but now with lessons learned.  I used some 50v capacitors instead of the 16 v ones, and it looks like I blew a fuse because of it, other than that the process seems to work.  So now I am soldering in the 16v cap's and hopefully I can track down a new fuse.  The fuse appears to have not completely blown, as the resistance is aout 2K ohms, still way too high for a fuse.  Wish me lick

Larry Dillon
The fuse would not have blown

The fuse would not have blown because of the voltage difference. You probably installed them incorrectly or you had a solder splash on the board. Each capacitor has a plus and a minus connection and has to be installe correctly.

bigjer25
interesting, well the fuse

interesting, well the fuse F9B02 has a resistance of about 2K ohms, so I assume I should replace it, the other 2 fuses nearby have zero resisitance, thanks again for your help.  the weird thing is that the tv booted last night twice, then crapped out again after the cap replacement. So maybe I will leave the 50V caps in and just replace th fuse.

Larry Dillon
That's fine, but why did it

That's fine, but why did it blow?  Fuses do not blow for no good reason in this set. Maybe the board gets flexed and shorts out against the case when the covers are put on?

bigjer25
I think solder splatter is

I think solder splatter is the culprit.  I had to clean some off of various parts of the board.

Also, there are 2 small dots very close to the cap solder points, they are so close I was wondering if a small amount of splatter would short out another component.

After your last email, I did notice some small splatter, maybe just enough to short something out.  So I have done some clean up work, and hopefully after the fuse replacement we are back in business.

Off we go again.

Larry Dillon
Lets hope this will be OK.

Lets hope this will be OK. Sometimes though solder splashes can be disastrous.
