By no means am I an expert but I have just recently been able to fix my convergence problem by replacing the ICs myself.  From what I have read in these threads, pico fuses blow BECAUSE of faulty ICs.

So I have read this thread

So I have read this thread which is a huge help. I have no experience with sodering or anything of the sort except for building computers. I'm ready for the challenge and are going to heed the tips.

My issue is that the red gun is off and cannot be aligned in the service menu. I can move it up and down but not left to right. Any idea which IC's/fuses this would involve. I don't care if I get zapped :)

I hope you wrote down where

I hope you wrote down where the settings were or when you replace the IC"S it is going to take you a while to readjust it, never try to adjust the service menu before repairing the set.

Hi Larry,

Hi Larry,
I'm planning to repair my Sony and was hoping you (or anyone else) still have a service manual for the kp-46wt500. I've been repairing electronics (as a hobby) for several years so I have the tools and familiarity to work with TVs. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Hello,

I'm replacing my STK 392-560 IC's in my sony KP-46WT500. Where is the G board located because I'm looking for the the two fuses but I don't see them?

I'm trying to replace the STK 392-560 IC's in my sony KP-46Wt500 and I'm looking for the G board.

Can someone tell me where the G board is?

The G board will be mounted

The G board will be mounted verticaly on your left. Look for the letter "G" printed in white. As previous threads pointed out this is where you will find several 5 amp pico fuses that you will need to check.

I have a KP-46WT500 with a convergence problem with the red gun. I have the service manual for the TV. I work in IT and was going to give it a shot but am a little taken back by how dangerous it can be after taking to some electrical engineers at work. If you live anywhere near the Boston area and want to unload this off my hands I'll be willing to sell it cheap with the Sony SU46WT5 TV stand included.

Let me know :)

Thanks for the info about the G board.

Do you know where I can get a copy of the service manual for sony model KP-46WT500?

Hi Larry,

Hi Larry,

I have a KP-46WT500 which has developed a convergence problem. It goes off for a while and then it works fine for sometime. It's been doing it for almost a year now. It has become more frequent and I have to get it fixed. From reading other postings here, it looks like I have to replace the ICs too.

Could you suggest where I could buy the ICs?

Could you also send me the manual for the KP-46WT500 to [email protected] ? What software do I need to open the manual ?

Larry Dillon
Your problem sounds like bad

Your problem sounds like bad connections on the convergence IC's, The solder connection on the botom side of the printed ciruit board. If it's not too late already. The IC"S I buy from http://www.electronic-repair-kits.com/index.html

My fs5001 pico fuse blows,

My fs5001 pico fuse blows, still even after installing new ic chips. I would recheck solder joints and connections then replace the pico its still blowing and the convergence is still way off. Should I look for something else or should I assume that I was shipped bad ic's?
Thanks in advance guys!

Hi Larry,

Hi Larry,
I found the service manual for the KP-46WT500 but it only shows block diagrams and a parts list for the D and G boards. Are the actual schematics available for these boards or am I missing something? Thanks
[email protected]

Larry Dillon
look at the service manual

look at the service manual and see what chassis number it is and download a differant model that has the schematics.you will find one ai am sure as long as the chassi is the same all the electrical will be the same.

Hey There. Just wandering if u can also help me with my tv. I have a sony kp-46wt500 and having problems with the green projector not lining up with the other colors. I got this tv off my buddy about a year ago for 30 bucks and i think it is worth fixing. I was reading about this a while back and just haven't taken a look at anything yet. I also talked to a tv repair shop and thet said it was probably something in the conversion circuit that was bad but couldn't tell me without fixing it himself and charging an arm and a leg. lol What could be causing this and any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Pete

ok will do.  I was also wandering from reading this site and some of the troubles you have helped others with and wanted to say that i see a lot of people having a problem with this model tv and was just asking an opinion if you thought it could be the ic stk392-560 chip causing this since alot of people are having pretty much the same problem..  I looked up those two parts and some 1/2 watt resistors also and can get them right now but just thought i would ask ur opinion while i am exploring this thing.   Thanks

probably every TV set made

probably every TV set made with the stk convergence IC's will fail at one time or snother

I just replaced the AD board

I just replaced the AD board in my Sony KP-46wt500. It was obviously damaged with simple visual inspection. This is the second time this board has gone out. This time, even with the new board, the green has certain sections that can't be adjusted. And certain functions don't adjust the screen. So, I guess it goes further than just that board. Does anybody know what else could go bad that is related to the convergence of the green CRT? Thanks for any info.

sdre27
Larry, The fix went well!

Larry, The fix went well! Picture looks great. But I do have a question for you. When the screen is black The red green and blue lines are still visible and are bowed a bit. Is this normal? or am I missing a step?
The repairs I did where replacing the two I.C. chips and blown fuse.

Thank you in advance!

sdre27
Oh one more thing larry.....

Oh one more thing larry..... After about twenty mins the screen develops a red haze. Picture is still visible just with a red tint to it. Do I need to apply more heat sink to the chips or replace the tube?
let me know.

hey larry.  I have an old soldering iron and gettin ready to replace it and get another desoldering pump also but was wandering what size gun you suggest for this repair and also what size solder. I think i remember seeing a thread with your suggestion in it before but do not remember and cannot find it.  lol..   also wanted to know exactly which board these stks are on.  I think i recall the d board and the pico fuses on the g board?  Thanks for this help that you are providing us with.Laughing I am sure i will have more questions to come in this process. Lol
