Even though I now have a working tv again, what hacks me off is that every site that I looked at to purchase a complete "G" board lists it as NLA. That is for a tv that was manufactured in Oct. 2004!
What happened to having to supply replacement parts for a product for 7 years??
that law was repealed in I think 2000 or so, they now only have to have parts available for 3 years, but try to complain, the manufacturer will take apart a set before any feds come to investicate. The manufacturers care about one thing and one thing only, the bottom libe as that is translated to money! They do not care how long a TV last how it is built or what types of parts go into them.
It's been a while since anyone has been on this thread.. but ...:)
I have one of these sets and .. yup.. it's blinking away. I bought a service manual and it says exactly what I see in this thread, one or both of those diodes is "open."
I'm going to try resoldering first since a cold joint makes for a good open but I wanted to see if anyone has the specs on these diodes? I can try to find them online but if I knew their specs i might be able to snag them localy.
panhandler62, you did a temp fix, as these diode4s should be replaced The D6301 part number is 6-500-567-21, and the D6116 part number is 8-719-081-97 and are available at http://www.partstore.com or a local Sony parts distributor should have these common diodes Good Luck and let us know if this helps you out.
Where are the diodes located? My TV did the same a few months ago and am bearly getting around to it. I got an estimate of $510 to fix it, rediculous I think. I understand the diodes are not a hard fix. Where are the diodes on the GBoard? Thanks for all the help...
i have a kp46wt520 it has 9 blinks i can get the diagnostics menu to open and turn on but it wont turn on regulary i was wondering if there is any way to turn off the diagnostics menu and just always leave it on. until i get some thing new. please email me with any help.
Alright, I got the G Board out and am going to replace the diodes hopefully today. I will keep you all posted if my repair is sucessfull. If I can fix this TV with $10 in parts when they wanted to charge me $500+ ima be in shock. Thanks
revrider1, The D6301 part number is 6-500-567-21, and the D6116 part number is 8-719-081-97 and are available at http://www.partstore.com or a local Sony parts distributor should have these common diodes Good Luck and let us know if this helps you out.
Ima have to order the part from the above location. I had a local dealer who said they could get me the parts but they flaked on me. So ima order them from Partstore. I ll keep you all posted. Thanks
Alright, I got the parts yesterday and put them in today. Damn, the TV works again. Im suprised 2 little diodes were the problem. I can believe they wanted to charge me $500 to repair it when it cost$10 in parts and 20 minutes of labor. Thats some bulls**t, what a ripoff some repair companies are. Thanks to the reads in this thread my TV is up and running again. Thanks again...
Great to hear you got your set working again man. Yes it is a shame that SOME, not all repair shops have reverted to ripping off the public like this. Don't forget to spread the word about techlore.com to all of your friends, co-workers, and family, and how much cash we helped you save. Oh and don't forget to read all of the great articles that are posted!
I will do that, I am new here and got very interested in the reads. Im gonna browse the forum and get to know things. Im here for good, thanks for all the info and the money I saved.

Larry,
Just came across this forum. Obviously same issue. Stand By light blinks 9 times. I have never delt with this TV circuit boards. Looks like fixing the diodes is making the problem go away.
Is there a way to get a manual (procedure) to change these diodes (i.e location, how they are supposed to be removed, replaced etc...). Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks in advance. Looking forward to hear from you guys.
These diodes should be replaced both together and NOT re soldered, as that will most likely fix the problem temporarily, but not a permanent fix. The D6301 part number is 6-500-567-21, and the D6116 part number is 8-719-081-97 and are available at http://www.partstore.com or a local Sony parts distributor should have these common diodes These diodes are located on the "G" board inside the TV set. The "G" board is the power supply board. It is not feasible to replace the "G" board as that will cost about 300 bucks or so for the board. You could probably take out the "G" board and send it to ptscorp.com and have them rebuild it for you for about 150 bucks. If you do not know how to solder you really should not attempt this repair. Good Luck and let us know if this helps you out.
help me!!, i have a KP-46WT520, my problem is that first it blink 10 times and later 9 times, so, i will reflowed the solder on the 2 diodes on G board and the tv work fine only one day but the tv dont work any more in the next day and again i have 10 blinks and 9 blinks
Larry : ....thanks.. my problem was solved (only i changed a diodo D6117), but the imagen is only blue. If i push the flash focus button, and i can see the 3 colors (RGB) but the tv imagen( is only blue) ...
hi larry, from what i have read here, you are the man. i have a kp-46wt520. i have the 9 blink problem. i have read what i need to do. the only thing is i would like a service manual , since i work better with pictures. is this something you could help me out with? if so, i see that you have not charged anyone, what is with that? is there a place for donations? let me know what you can do and thank you. email is [email protected]
alejandroitom, replace two diodes, both of the diodes need to be changed. Why are you fighting the replacement the diodes? Replace what I tell you or no help. I cannot assist you if you buck me! If the picture is still blue after you replace the OTHER DIODE, double check all of the connectors, as I bet one is not all the way in the board or on the picture tube.

Hi Larry I have the same problem: one time 10 blinks and then 9. I saw that I need to change the diodes but, I want to know if you can send me the manual and diagrams to change these diodes (i.e location). Also I saw that they don’t have any more one of the diodes, do you have the numbers that replace the obsolete ones.
By the way my TV is KP-46WT520
Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks in advance
You use replacement diodes that are available. Both diodes are available. You can get a manual from HERE for about 24 bucks. These diodes are located on the G board and BOTH need to be replaced. If you have no soldering or printed circuit board experience play it safe and call out a pro to assist you in this repair. This is not a job for the novice to attempt. Good Luck
MotvGuy, changed them at work today and just installed it and it works!!!! Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well that was a lot cheaper than hauling it off to the repair place...
I found a cold solder joint on the D6301 component on the anode lead. Reflowed the joint and all is well now.
I'm so glad I found this forum.. saved me hundreds (at least) of dollars.
P.s. For $1200 you would think you could get a bit more craftsmanship in the power supply. :P

One more question? Should I expect to replace these diodes again in the next 2 years just the originals went out? THANKS
I have not heard any thing to think it will start haveing any troubles.
Alright, just curious. Ima go ahead and order another pair of diodes to have in case of this happening. THANKS
Would'nt hurt. Just remember where they are! LOL

I have said time after time, you need to replace these diodes NOT resolder them. Look right above your first thread.

correction.. the imagen is very dark.. and i see horizontal red or blue lines, but i can see the tv's menu..
hi larry, from what i have read here, you are the man. i have a kp-46wt520. i have the 9 blink problem. i have read what i need to do. the only thing is i would like a service manual , since i work better with pictures. is this something you could help me out with? if so, i see that you have not charged anyone, what is with that? is there a place for donations? let me know what you can do and thank you. email is [email protected]

Can be the D card?
did you know the generic number for the diodes in case that I need to replace? (D6301 and the D6116)
