A call to Sony and they have no idea what the "Switching Regulator" is. Can any one give me more advice on what my problem is and what board it is located on?
The switching regulator is in the switch mode supply but if that is bad most likely nyou will find other parts bad too. Your problem could be on the "G" board or the "D" board. Hope this helps.
I pulled the "G" board over the weekend and brought it in to work (we make power supplies for medical equipment). They didn't think it was the correct board. They will test it anyway. I will pull the "D" board tonight and bring it in tomorrow. Thanks for you help!

Larry, I received the service manual and I thank you. Work is telling me that the "G" board is fine. He doesn't want me to remove any more boards and wants to come to my home to look at it. Can you tell me if it's not the "G" board which board it would be? I don't want him making my problem worse. My faith is not that high in him.....
The old 9 blink 46WT520 problem. There are 2 diodes on the G board causing this. I don't have the referance numbers but you can use standard diodes. I'll look them up today and post later.
Did you disconnect one end of the diodes and check both ways of the diode at high resistance? One way should check and the other very very high resistance.
I have the same model that started doing the same thing (9 blinks) on Sunday. Hope to change the diodes and fix it when I find what diodes will work in place of the originals.
Mrk55, The D6301 part number is 6-500-567-21, and the D6116 part number is 8-719-081-97 and are available at http://www.partstore.com or a local Sony parts distributor should have these common diodes Good Luck and let us know if this helps you out.
I understand what your saying but just for kicks, test them the way i suggested. I dont know how many times my meter said the diodes were good but then it turns out they were not.
Great. Our post here are strickly on the basis as these problems have happened in the past and it is always a possibility that your set has a differant problem. Thanks for keeping us informed.
I took my G board out tonight and reflowed the solder on the 2 diodes in question even though they looked good, replaced the board and lo and behold the tv works again!!!

I sent a Sony KP51WT520, but it is the same chassis as the KP46WT520.

Larry, never mind. You did say earlier it could be the "D" board. My bad, I am just devestated over my tv.

Larry, both diodes tested with high freguency using a Fluke 73 III. I am told that they don't need to be removed to test????

Thanks for the info, but the D116 comes up as not available from Parts store.
I did put the MMDL914T1 in a Mouser part number search and came up with a match. Mousers # is 863-MMDL914T1

Larry, has any one else found a damaged componet on the "G" board? or any high current output on the same board?
Sure lots of things go wrong on that board but the diodes are common. i forgot about those, thanks to MOtvGUY I remembered.

tmortz According to my records we have found in the past IC6100,Q6111,Q6107, and D6118 all bad at differant times and on differant repairs.
Thank you Larry, Raul has changed out the 2 diodes and I will post later today or in the morning if it worked.

Larry, thanks for the disclaimer. We both feel that changing out the 2 diodes is way too easy to fix the problem so we fully expect more issues.
I just think it is great that you give your time doing this (I hope that this is your job and you get paid).

Don't check the diodes, change them.
