Video Playback / Recording Devices

I have a memorex dvd player.  When I try to play a dvd, a yellow box appears in the middle of the screen with an exclamation point in a triangle, below the triangle are the letters PSCAN (I assume meaning progressive scan?) and the screen is split in half (so now I have two mini screens).  I'm not sure what to do.  Any suggestions?

I have two VCR/DVD combo players ones a Philips ones a Daewoo. The VCR works fine on both however, they both recently have a DVD problem. Disc Error on the Philips and Bad Disc on the Daewoo. I know the DVD's are okay but they will not play them, they just keep loading a lot longer and then give the error message. The disc is spining and I tried a DVD cleaner, but it still gave the error message on the cleaner disc.

I have a 27F520T RCA tv. I am trying to connect a dvd player to my
tv. I only get sound, no picture. I tried using the white&red audio
cables with an S-video cable and then with the yellow video cable, but
I get the same problem. Can anyone help?
