Video Playback / Recording Devices

This problem is regarding my Toshiba SD-V291 DVD Player/Video Cassette recorder. When I try to play the VHS mode my TV shows nothing except for a black screen (no picture), but I can hear the sound. My TV, which is a Toshiba 24AF43, is set to Video mode, but still the Video Cassette doesn't play. The strange thing is that whenever I play the DVD player it works, the picture and sound are present. So what could the problem be? I have made all the right connections, according to the manual and I have had this player for 2 years now.

Since my last DVD player bit the dust, I'm looking to find a replacement DVD player that enables another capability... I want to be able to show my digital images on TV. (Ideally, these could be recorded on DVD or CD-ROM, but I'll settle for DVD only.)

The technical question: has anyone made this new feature work? All the product specs say are "Supported Image formats: jpeg" and "Picture viewer: y/n". What media formats actually work with jpg? Is any software needed on the media?

I have a problem with the VCR cassette getting hung up during ejection.

I have the deck apart and the right side still seems to be the problem by getting out of alignment when ejecting the tape.
