I have a 3 yrs old Samsung DLP HL4365 TV. I changed the color wheel once before and it lasted for about a year.
Recently I had the same problem with the same symptoms and replaced the color wheel again, but problem still exists. The problem is that the tv works for while and screen turns black and shuts off after the cooling cycle. All 3 fans are working fine. the lamp lights, no sparking sound on the balast assembly. I also vacuume cleaned inside just in case. I am returning the collor wheel and ordering another one with a balast assy.
What shoulds I try next?

I recently replaced the color wheel on my 50" Samsung HLN5065wxx/xaa. It was shattered. Everything else on the TV was working perfectly before that.
After replacing the color wheel the lamp wouldn't come on. Took the works to my local TV guy. He turned around the ribbon that is one of the connections to the color wheel, and told me to go home and try it. I did and it worked perfectly for 2-3 hours.. Then the picture went off and the 3 blinking lights came on.
Now the local Tv guy says it's the digital board, a $400.00 repair. I don't believe him. Could he have sabotaged my TV and if so what could he have done or if not what else can it be. How can parts that were working perfectly go bad while the TV is off and unplugged for 10 days.
There are thousands of bad digital boards out there, perhaps yours is one of them or...
only your tv guy knows for sure. My board acts the same way and all of the individual parts seem to be working just fine for a couple hours when I can get it to work. For example, when I replaced the Ballast board hoping for the best, it worked fine for a few hours but the next day would only give me the three blinking LEDs. Someday I will figure this thing out, I never give up. I have begged Samsung for the answer but have been completely ignored each time. What makes a logic board go bad? Sometimes it's one tiny overheated componant that costed only a dollar but who can afford the labor charge to track it down and replace it? So there are all these bad boards floating around out there, probably on ebay, that work fine for an hour or so and overheat then die. Pretty good repair scheme but I bet Samsung came up with the idea first. If these companies would spend the money on making quality products instead of coming up with these despicable ways of ripping off the public they would make more money in market share not to mention loyal repeat customers. I'll never invest my time or money with them again.
I recently replaced the color wheel in my 5 yr old model hlp5663. Its been fine until recently. The picture randomly goes out. The lamp is still lit and the fans are running. I still have sound and I'm not getting any of the dreaded error lights on the front. If I turn it off for a little while and then back on it'll work for another couple hours then start the cycle over again. I have a replacement lamp but haven't used it yet because like I said the old lamp hasn't gone out. Could this be the ballast or something completely different.
I have Samsung DLP HL-P4663W. My TV started showing bad colors first. But after turning off and back on, it worked fine. This trick worked for couple of months. Then screen went completely blank and three LEDs started flashing. I thought the lamp is gone. So I bought a new lamp from samsungparts.com. Now when I turn the TV on, first Lamp LED starts flashing. I can hear and feel the fan from back side and something trying to fire up the lamp. After 15 seconds LED stops flashing and click sound from back. Then cycle starts again. This happens three times. Then all three lights start blinking. I am planning to get exchange for the lamp and buy a new balast at same time just to make sure that balast is not bad and blow the lamp. I don't want to spend more money on replacing all the parts. Any thoughts?
Sounds all too familiar. After replacing the lamp in my HLP4663WXAA the 3LED cycle of death began. But sometimes after being unpluged for days it would power up and work just fine for an hour or two only to fail again with solarized looking colors or the black screen of failure. replaced the ballast just to see if it made a difference but did not seem to make any difference at all. Because I have no reason to suspect the color wheel and the set has been cleaned and vacuumed, what is left to replace is the main digital board that runs 400 bucks. This is not what I was told to expect when I spent almost three thousand dollars on Samsung DLP technology. Everyone seems to be having the same problem and the factory gives absolutely no support to the idea that the boards were defective to begin with. I will never buy a Samsung product again because of it and I will tell everyone I know what a deceptive company Samsung really is!!!
I agree. I think Samsung just wants to focus on launching new products. What they don't understand is without loyal customers they cannot survive in this market for long time. Recently my Samsung cell phone contract expired. While buying new I didn't even think about any of the Samsung phones out there because of experience with tv.
Just to echo what you are saying, the Samsung digital camera I bought a few years ago only lasted a year before complete failure. This is just not an acceptable track record and I wish someone had told me sooner. My Fuji camera is now 8 years old and still works as new. Although the older technology has it's draw backs I still use it.
So I replaced the lamp and the ballast to no avail. I've given up and will be buying a new set. It's a shame because the picture is beautiful when I have one but I've invested enough. I'm going to try to sell my brand new lamp and ballast on ebay if anyone is interested. They were literally installed for one day. I still have the original packaging so hopefully I can pass them on to someone who can use them at a huge discount. Again my set is a Samsung DLP Model HLP5663W.
Samsung DLP model #HL56A650C1FXZA. It seems I have the Samsung Bug also. Mine went out on me, same thing, just started turning on and off by itself. No picture or sound. Nothing worked. I tried unplugging it, and when I plugged it in, it was still stuck in that same cycle. I did some internet research and came to the conclusion that it was the capacitor on the Ballast board.Put a new capacitor on the ballast board. Plugged it in and it worked. BUT, after a couple of hours of watching tv it shut off again. Same cycling but this time I had a picture and sound when it cycled on. I unplugged it for a few minutes and plugged it back in, still the same. So I unplugged it again and left it for a couple hours. Plugged it back in and it worked for almost 24 hrs. Now same thing if I let it unplugged for awhile it will work. It seems something is getting hot and then cooling down only when it's unplugged. I read something about a temperature sensor. Does anyone have any experience with this. Like where its at, and are these the symptoms.
For anyone who might be able to help.. I have had my sumsung dlp, #HL56A650C1FXZA, for almost 2 yrs. I have replaced the lamp a couple of times and to save some money found somewhere cheaper than sumsung parts.com However, when I purchased the lamps and installed them, as I have before, the tv blacked out lights blinking and a humming noise started after about 4 days. So, I thought that lamp was just defective so I put the other in. 2 weeks later same thing with the other lamp (again not samsung parts, refurbished). To the experts or to anyone who knows better..... Does it sound like I need to go back to samesungparts.com for a lamp or do you think I am looking at another issue? I appreciate any feedback regarding the questions thanks.
I have first gen HLN617 and trying to replace recently ordered lamp ballast.
Ran into problem: The small connector that sits on daughter card is 5 pins (repair manual refers to this connector as CN2). My old ballast (and TV) uses a 3 pin connector (@#$%^&!!!). It seems like only three of the pins are used (???). Can anyone advise which of the 5 wires of the ballast i need to connect the 3 wires coming from the TV to ?
I have a 56" Samsung DLP model number hlr5667wx/xaa and I was watching it the other day, heard a loud pop and the picture no longer comes on. Once I plug the television in there is a repeated cycle of a 1-2 second buzzing sound and the lights on hte front of the television are on. Any suggestions?
I have a 56 in samsung dlp. I had to replace my bulb about 11 months after I got it. Lucky fo meb it was under warranty, six months after the bulb went out again forcing me to buy a new bulb. 80 days later it went out again...still under the 90 day warranty I got a new one free...today again about 80 days later...its out again...wtf anyone got neideas???
hi i have a samsung hlt5075sx/xaa with dlp. my problem is this when i turn the power on it make the start up sound and it makes the sound again and turns off then the lamp/temp led and standby led blink..any help would be greatly appreciated .....
hi i have a samsung hlp6063wx xaa my sister got the fan replaced then color wheel went out her boyfriend replaced the color wheel after using the tv for some time. tv stopped working again lamp looks good to me tv turns on but no picture lamp light is on by the power button i was thinking about buying a lamp but dont want to if it could be the ballaster can someone help me
I searched through many, many posts here but nothing led me to the specific issue I am having.
My DLP is the HL-R4667W that I purchased March, 2006. I just replaced the lamp bulb - as the glass was actually broken.
Now, the lamp goes on, but nothing else happens, no fan, no sound of the color wheel spinning. The TV shuts itself off after about 30 seconds.
Is my ballast bad or could it be the control board?
I have no problem changing the ballast if that is the problem - I just want clarification that that is the issue before I start spending money on an almost 5 year old unit.
It is my guess that the bias is the culprit and caused the lamp to blow due to bad capacitors as a result from an overheating problem. This somehow adversly affects the digital board so even after the lamp and bias are replaced there is now a much more serious problem, not to mention costly. You could not sell the tv for what it would cost to fix much less the parts on top of that. Bad design and no protection curcuits most likely. Kind of sounds like the gulf oil disaster, the necessary precautions were not taken in the name of saving a buck and that is also the reason Samsung has refused to comment on this common problem. Toshiba learned it's lesson the hard way when they knowingly produced hard drives that had a problem and I'm sure the only way for Samsung to go is to not admit to anything and thereby avoid their resposibility to their customers. I'll never buy another Samsung product again and will advise others to do the same. They continue to ignore my requests for help on solving the problem with my 3000 dollar investment. They promised all I would need to do is change the lamp after so many hours and failed to say that I would have all these other issues with it. I'm sure they have their reasons for not answering one of my emails...
I was saying 'bias' but meaning to say 'ballast". I have sense talked with Samsung customer service again and they gave me the number of someone that knows generation 3 DLPs. All I want is information as to what went wrong so I can fix the problem without replacing every part and especially the digital board. If it's a capacitor then I am perfectly capable of the repair. Will advise you all as to the outcome of my conversation with them. (HLP4663WX/XAA victim)
So far all I have gotten is a very understanding customer service rep that has arranged for a tech to call me in the next two business days to discuss the problem. This is further than I got before... We will see if they are actually willing to disclose what there data base has on the problem.
Hello all,
Need help! I have Samsung DLP 61 that is about 4 years old, the tv keeps turning on and off by itself. I have change the lamp and the same problem keeps happening. Help, please.
I need help. my 50 inch dlp tv is broken. i was watching tv one night and it suddenly turned off. turned in back on and darker than usual picture would come on for about two minutes and then it would shut off. the three lights in the front are flashing. i pulled out the lamp and there seems to be nothing wrong with it. is there a way to tell if the lamp is broken? it looked fine. nothing looked burnt. im hesitant about buying a new lamp as they are very expensive and shipping to hawaii is crazy. do not want to spend 200 and end up with something else broken. also how do i tell if the ballast is broken? thank you!
Samsung support is the worst runaround I have ever experienced. They will not answer the question as to what is making the digital board on all these DLPs fail. Probably because it would mean a class acton lawsuit.
My daughter gave my husband and I a Sansung TV Model Code HL56A650C1FXZA, Serial #AKWF3CKQB03736B, Type HL 56A560 for Christmas 2009. In July 2010 it blew the lamp. I mean it literally exploded. We ordered a replacement lamp from Amazon Marketplace and replaced it. In February of this year (2011) it again blew the lamp. We again ordered a replacement part. This time from J & J International, Inc. This lamp was received and installed on 2-16-2011. This lamp just blew again. We feel that we got a defective T V at the start. My daughter and her husband already had a Samsung that they had had for a long time with no problems. That is why they got us the Samsung. ((It still has not blown a lamp). We feel that we should be given a new T V, or at least reimbursed for what we have already spent and given a lamp that will not blow in a few months. This is extremely inconveniencing
I have a Samsung HLN5065WX DLP. Started to shut off by itself, cleaned it out and went well for a few months. Then started to shut off by itself again and got no picture. Pulled the lamp and housing it appears to be broken, do I need to replace lamp and ballast or just lamp?
My samsung dlp stopped working recently and the lamp light came on. Repalced the lamp and lamp light comes on and blinks and tv makes a whining noise but no picture. What is going on? Any suggestions? Is the lamp bad?

There is already one on going for the "light tunnel" issue.
