Can anyone point me in the right direction?I have had my samsung DLP (model SP50L6HD) for 4 years. This morning my children were watching TV and the tv started turning itself on and off. I switched it off, unplugged and left it for an hr to reset it. When I turned it back it it fires up for about 1 minute then turns itself on and off trying to fire the picture. The picture goes off before the sound?? The lamp light flashes but no other lights on the front. There is a buzzing sound too, but the TV has always had this from day 1.

Wondering what it could be and whether its worth trying to fix the problem or just buy a new TV??

I can point you (and all

I can point you (and all others reading this) in the right direction but you are not going to like it. These DLPs were great in the day but have now gone by the way side. Samsung has abandoned them, no longer supports them or the customers they bilked out of thousands of dollars back when this technology cost 3,000 plus dollars. I will never buy another Samsung product as long as I live and will advise others to do the same. Sell the set for as much as you can get "as-is" and don't look back. Just consider that you got your moneys worth and go on to better and cheaper technology. It will cost more to fix this tv than it is worth and in the end it will just breakdown all over again. It will never be worth the money it takes to repair it. You will be better off replacing it for 3 or 4 hundred than putting that money into repairs on an old set with aging electronics. Sorry, but in the end you will thank me...  Screw Samsung! The cheap-ass MFs that won't stand by their products. They're goin down!

I have Samsung model hls5087w

I have Samsung model hls5087w, Let me explain to all of you the process I went thru. noticed problem after trying to connect my lap top to the tv using the DB15 as the link. Did not work (worked the week before), the next week, The tv would only stay on for an average of 2 hours, then shuts off with a buzz in the back, and then the 3 blinking lights. After replacing the bulb the tv worked for 15 hours strait, then 6 hours, then 2 hours, then 19 minutes, then 6 mintues. I Then took the tv apart, checked the fans (were spinning) but noticed when the the fans would turn to a high mode, they would never kick in, just stay the same slow turning speed (for airflow). I then put a fan in back of the tv pointing at the digital board, worked for 9 hours, then 2, then 6 mintues. (same problem just different scenereo EXECPT FOR THIS TIME, the tv would go blank, and I could still hear the sound of the station i was watching for a few minutes, then it would power down completely) then I attached a fan to the exaust forcing the air out of the back, same exact process before. So I decided to replace the ballast, this did not fix the problem, tv would shut down after 6 mintues (picture black, sound on) after all this work of experiment, I am guessing It could be the main board? and Have no clue on what else to do.

Update, I have put in new fan

Update, I have put in new fan's (a high powered fan and attached the original fan to the exaust of the light bulb area) and the tv set stays on for average of 9 minutes. I hear a buzzing sound for 1/2 to 1 second and the picture shuts off, no lights on the front at all, all blank. I turn to the back of the set, the bulb is still bright, the sound is still on from the tv station and the fans are still spinning. Color wheel? any suggestions?

2nd attempt+ with the new fan system. When Tv is out in plenty of room, tv stays on, when put back in the entertainment area, tv shuts off.....

with the new bulb in, I had to adjust the brightness, to 80% and no problems with shutting off. hmm what a weird path and process this was... all for more ventilation....
