Larry, I stumbled on this

Larry, I stumbled on this forum after desperately searching Google for some insight to my initial 10blink then 9 blink problem. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. I followed your advice ordered the parts, had a friend solder them on and presto tv is working again like new! You saved me a ton of money and aggravation. Side note..had a long call with Sony support rep, no matter how hard I explained the problem they were utterly clueless. They kept going back to "well unplug the tv and plug it back in, make sure its no on the UPS or surge suppressor"

Any thank you again for the excellent advice and instructions!

  • Larry, this sounds like the fix for me. One problem- I live in Canada and partstore wont ship here!

However, you can get it at: http://www.globalsemi.com/

OK, Got the parts in one week. Cost was $28 shipping included.

Used multi-meter to determine the polarity on the small D6116.

Re-plugged everything and VOILA, the TV works.....

    Thanks so much guys.

P.S. I called a Sony repair center before finding this site. The cost to come to the house and fix the TV was $250. That is a savings of $220.

I am about to try to fix my G

I am about to try to fix my G board but I have some questions and hopefully someone can answer them...here it goes...
    1. What wattage soldering iron should I use? 2. Should Rosen soldering flux be used when reheating the joint? 3. Does reflowing the solder mean reheating the existing solder joint only, without adding any additional solder? 4. Is there any type of meter that someone can recommend to test to see if the diodes are working?? Thanks.

The old 9 blink 46WT520 problem.  There are 2 diodes on the G board causing this. I don't have the referance numbers but you can use standard diodes.  I'll look them up today and post later.

You sir are completely awesome...Thank you very much...

I just got a free KP-51 with the 9 blink code. I just changed the d6301 (the larger one) and budda bing

I have a question. If I remove the G board is there anything that can ZAP me inside that I must look out for? I have the 9 blinks also, and want to try and fix it myself! Thanks for your time, Gerry

After following the great instructions for the 9-blink issue, I replaced the 2 diodes (6301 and 6116) on my KP-51WS520, and the TV fired up and all was well and ran great...until the next day when I went to turn it on again. 9-blinks and no picture again. Could this be the same diode(s) went bad again or is it something else on the G-board circuit. or could it be the D-board? Thanks ALL for the great info posted!

    Larry,

    Larry,

I have a 46wt520 and I counted my blinks and received to what I think is a 10 and a 9 error codes, but it blinks 10, 9, 9, 9. I thought I could have made a mistake when counting but I counted again and I still get 10 for the first and the rest 9's. thoughts on what to do? I think I may have more than one board to fix right?

    I had a problem with my G

I had a problem with my G board and I was going to fix it myself but then I stumbled upon a company called Tri State Module 800-203-7484. More than likely it is the 2 diodes that are not working. The way they work is that they charge a $20 bench fee to look and diagnose the G board to see if it is a problem. Once they do that, they will call you and fix the board. It only costs $45 dollars to fix and that price includes the $20 bench fee. Then they ship it out to you for $5. So for $55 dollars (5 to ship, 45 to fix and 5 to ship back), I got a rebuilt G Board that I popped into my TV and (Knock on wood) is still working great 2 months later. Don't give yourself a headache, just call Tri State Module and everything should be fine.

Can the G board be safely removed with the power off? I don't want any surprises! thanks

Over a year ago I replaced the two diodes like you recommended and the TV is still going strong. Thank you very much for posting the excellent info! I was lucky that my city has a Sony parts dealer so I found your forum and made the repair on the same day. That SM diode is the smallest thing I've ever soldered. Thanks too for posting the manual.

Gerry, what model do you have and what is wrong with the set.

If ac has been unplugged for a while you can safely pull the chassis to access the boards.

Hi! I have a Sony KDS

Hi! I have a Sony KDS-55A2000 and have the dreaded 9 blinks. The info. on this thread is GREAT! I know exactly what to do. I found D6301 but for the life of me, can't find D6116...can anyone tell me where to look exactly on the G board, or at least a diagram of where it is??? PLEASE!
    Thanks, Bobby

    I have a model KD-28HR500

I have a model KD-28HR500 with the power failure problem and the 9 red blinks code.  I understand about changing the two diaodes on the G board, but since this is a Japenese model TV that operates on a 100 volt transformer, I wanted to make sure that the values of the diaodes qouted in this thread are the same for my set.  It sounds like these components are on the power supply board, so I thought there might be a difference in the values for a 100 volt system vs a 120 volt system.

I do not have any schematics or service manuals, so I don't have any way to verify this.  The link for service manuals could not provide a manual for my system.

     Thanks,

    Wallace
