JWA You are right...I took the board out of the cover and it seated and the tv came on...now my color is off...looks like the red is not projecting correctly. My best description is that the red is projecting in a banner shape slightly skewed from the other colors.....I hope I can get across the finish line with this one...

 Thanks for your help,

I got the DM board in...I had to put the board in first and then installed the metal case over it. I also found the loose wire that connected to my red bulb (fixed the convergence problem in my previous post). All is working great now. Thanks to JWA and Larry and everyone that posted information regarding this problem.

Larry Dillon said: If you are handy, and can solder, you may be able to save about 700 bucks if not more. There is a very common problem with these Mitsubishi TV sets. There is a digital board inside these puppies called the DM board. A lot of times there are four capacitors that go bad inside of these TV sets. Sometimes, depending on how bad the capacitors are, and if the capacitors did not blow out anything else on the Dm board, you can simply replace these four capacitors and this will fix your TV set. The average that this works on is about 65 to 70 % of the sets can be repaired with this fix. The others are power supply issues or the DM board has other issues. If you would like to attempt to repair your TV set, I will send you the instructions on how to do so.  If you do not know how to solder well, do not attempt to replace the capacitors yourself. Pay a pro to do this for you. After all you are already saving a bundle of cash. Leave an e-mail address, and I will forward you the fix with and without the light engine. And if the capacitors inside the board are not swollen on the tops, as the direction shows you what they look like, change the capcitors anyway. I have had a few that looked good but the capacitors were on their way out. Good Luck

Larry

Anything you can do to help me along with this process would be great.  My email is [email protected]

I am going to try to fix the capacitors myself, I am hoping this resovles my issues.

Thanks

Hi Larry, Happy New Year,

I have the same model (WS 55859 HDTV w/pip) but no blinking light.  The TV just shuts off after 5-seconds.  The diagnostic code is 2-2 but I don't know what that means.  I ordered a service manual prior to finding this site but haven't got it yet.  Can you help me as well?  Thanks!

[email protected]

Larry Dillon
When you get your manual, you

When you get your manual, you will see the diagnostics test shows that a 2-2 blink means short protect. That means the power supply detected an large amount of current draw and shut down because of a short in the set. Most likely in this set, you have a bad convergence IC. You will however still need to change those seven capacitors in the DM board and if you do not, they could blow out the DM module, and at a cost of about 1000 bucks, I think 10 bucks worth of capacitors is worth saving 1000 bucks. In this model there is only one convergence IC. It's number is the STK393-110. Good Luck with your repair.

Larry, I have a few more

Larry, I have a few more details to add to the post I left you on TechLore. I replaced the caps on the DM Board.  Set powered up and worked great for about 24 hours.  Opened the unit back up and checked the cap connections.  All were very solid, no pits or cracs in the solder at all.  Put the DM back into the Set.  unit goes through its normal green light flashes at initial power up and appears to be ready to function correctly.  After power up the light stops flashing as it should.  When the power button is pressed on the set or by remote (i get the same result either way) the green light flashes for approx 30 seconds and the unit becomes "dead"  the set will not respond, there appears to be only two (2) ways to get any response to the set.  1) hit the recessed reset switch 2) unplug the unit let it stand for a few minutes and restore power.  both of these methods bring me to the same point.  normal power up flashing and at the push of the "on" button approx 30 seconds of flashing and then a "dead" unit. Your advice was to do the following: it is now time to start checking the powersupply voltages like the 130 and the plus and minus 22volts. Make sure all of the fuses are good. Thesefuses i am talking about are not in the DM, they arein the power supply section of the set and they do notlook like fuses, but the will be marked most likely onthe board right by them as F9A0 somthing like that. You will need to know how to use a multimeter. Maybethe convergence went out. If you find any open fusesin the power supply, do not replace them yet as youcould cause more damage. Let me know the fuse numberfirst. Larry,

With the unit unplugged I have now checked all fuses you described (soldered to the board)  I could find none that were open.  All checked out as showing conductivity through them.  where to from here??

Thanks,

Chris
