Larry,

Larry,

I have the same problem with the blinking green light after a series of power surges last night.  Could you please send me the instructions on how to fix the DM module.  I have a WS-65713 model and I have the blinking light.  Please send it to [email protected].  Thank you very much.

Hello Larry,

Hello Larry,

Have you had a chance to look at the manual on th ws65411? Is it the same as the others with the DM card?

Thank you

Chris

Chris, please start a thread

Chris, please start a thread with your model number and remind me what you have what your problem is and what you have tried. Man, with all the request for help I get everyday, it is hard to remember what I have told someone or advised someone on a different model number. This way i can look back and see what you have told me and what I have said.

Aww... I'm sure you could think of something!

My husband and I are going to tackle this problem today I think.  We got your instructions and all the materials except for the capacitors (have to go to an electronics store later for that).  Do you know offhand what size/voltage/type of capacitors we would need to purchase for my model set (WS-65713) so I know what to tell him to get?

P.S. ... Never mind...I see the link at the bottom of your email and it took me to the order page for 16V 1000uF 105C Hi-Temp capacitors.  I get at least 4 of these correct?

Larry Dillon
Look at the instructions I

Look at the instructions I sent before doing anything. You need at least 1000 mfd @ 16 volts.  You will need four of them. If you cannot find the 16 volt ones, get the 25 volt ones. But remember the 1000mfd is important, and do not stray from that value. It is better if you get the high temp. type capacitors. They are the 105 "C" type. In a pinch, you can use the 85 "C" type. The "C" stands for Celsius.

My husband has one other

My husband has one other question before he tackles this.  I have noticed on these boards that sometimes if this fix doesn't work the first time, there might be a problem with the fuses and I have noted you state elsewhere that, if this happens, one should not change the fuses without changing the convergence ICs first.  Hubby wants to know if there is a particular way (i.e. how) to test the fuses to see if they are bad and, if they are, where would one purchase the replacement convergence IC and fuses?  (P.S., are these fuses labeled on the WS-65713 board and, if so, which are they?).  He kind of wants to get all his ducks in a row before he opens the set up.  Hope this is clearer than mud.  Thanks in advance!

Larry Dillon
First replace the capacitors.

First replace the capacitors. The convergence IC's do go bad in this model but not as much as the other models I have beed helping with. If the light is flashing now and does not stop flashing after about a minute or so, then the problem could be one or more of the small surface mounted fuses on the solder side of the DM board. With this model, not likely. Let me know after you replace the capacitors in the DM, after you plug in the set, wait till the light goes out then hit the power switch. Is this clear?

leday
Yes it is, thank you.  He

Yes it is, thank you.  He will be able to get to this in a day or two, after he is able to get the parts he needs (he works third shift so timing is an issue with him...BUT he'll get it done as soon as he can).   Thank you so much for your help.

Larry, I posted a request on

Larry, I posted a request on 12/2 and haven't seen anything.  It may have been blocked over into my bulk mail.....can you please re-send and post here to let me know you have sent it?

Here is my original request " My WS-55513 started with the blinking green light problem last week, ironically, after me telling the whole family how we haven't had any problems with the TV.  I have confirmed that the reset won't work.

Can you please send the service manual/pics so that I can get this thing replaced?  My email address is [email protected]"

Thanks!!

Mike

Mike, I could have sworn that

Mike, I could have sworn that I sent that out to you already. I will of course send it again. Good Luck with the repair.

Good morning Larry

Good morning Larry

While we are waiting to receive the new capacitors that we ordered, hubby wants to know that while he has the set opened for the repair, can he actually test the fuses (and what type of meter to use?)  to make sure they are OK before he puts the set back together again.

I know you said that this is not likely to be an issue with our WS-65713 model set, but I think he is trying to avoid having to put the set back together, test it, and then find he has to take it apart again go have a go at the convergence ICs and fuses.  (He's kind of obsessively meticulous.....)

Larry,

Larry,

I've got a WS-65813 with the flashing green "Timer" light. While I've read several of the posts here I have not read them all. It appears that when this occurs it is an indicator that the capacitors need relacement. Is this always the case? I also saw mention of fuses. Should one replace the fuses 1st prior to replacing the capacitors???

I would truly appreciate "the article" that seems to have been helpful to the multitudes. Very cool that you take the time to help out all us folks.

Thanks

Rick ([email protected])

leday, he will need to use

leday, he will need to use what is called  an ohm meter. Any multimeter has an ohm scale on it. The fuses should measure like a full short, with zero resistance. In other words, if he puts the leads of the ohm meter across the fuses, and the meter does nothing, the fuse is considered open. If he puts the leads of the meter across the fuses, and the meter reads zero ohms or around one or so ohms, the fuses are good. There is no need to take the fuses off of the board to measure them. If you find that that F9A04 or F9A05 is open, Change the convergence IC's. No ifs ands or buts. Do not simply replace the fuse, as if you do, it will blow out your power supply for sure.. Now, something new to add to the mix. I recently had a bad DM, I replaced the capacitors, and it did not work. Upon further investigation, I found out a voltage was missing from the DM board. it was the minus 6 volts. So I check the fuses for the DM in the power supply, and both were blown. I replaced the capacitors, replaced the fuses, F9A01 and F9A06 in the power supply of the TV set, and poof everything was back to normal. I am going to add this to my list of things to check, as well as the convergence fuses and ICs replacement. Now remember, a fuse DOES not blow for no reason. Replacing a blown fuse without finding out why it blew can cause serious damage to your TV set. And BE CAREFUL!!

Larry Dillon
No rick, a fuse does not blow

No rick, a fuse does not blow without a reason. A fuse is there to protect the circuit from overloading and blowing up and causing a fire. If the fuses F9A01, or F9A06 blows, you for sure have bad capacitors in your DM and you will need to change them. Now sometimes the fuses do not blow but the capacitors are still bad. I simply replace the capacitors and while I am in the set, check the two fuses in the power supply. Now there are also three fuses in the DM board assembly. They will be marked on the solder side of the board. These are surface mounted type fuses and it is rare that they go bad, they have in the past been the problem the set would not fire up AFTER the Capacitors were replaced. I will send you the information you need. Good Luck with your repair.

leday
Thank you so very much for

Thank you so very much for all of your advice.  I will let you know how we make out.  Hopefully, the capacitor fix will be the only thing we need, but it is good to have the advice on the other stuff too.

After you have had a chance to add the additional information to your instructions, could you please resend them to me at [email protected] (just so I have a complete, updated document)?  I already have the service manual you sent, so you wouldn't need to resend that.

Again, thank you so much for all of your help.
