Fairlane500, anything from a 2.00 part all the way up to 1500 bucks could cost you to repair this set.  Unless you have money you can throw away and gamble with, I myself would shy away from anything that did not work and not buy it sight unseen.  The set could have damaged boards or could be missing boards.  let us know what you decide.

Hi, Larry, thanks for answering. Yes, the DVD works fine on our Sony that is in the shop. I will check the mode if I can get to it on the Zenith, since it's our only TV right now. I have got a manual for both the TV and the DVD player, which is Panasonic model # DVD-S27/DVD-S27U/DVD-S24. The TV manual says nothing about DVD's, only VCR's. The TV is old, but only driven on Sundays by an old lady. :) TIA for your help. annis

I have a Samsung 30 inch

I have a Samsung 30 inch widescreen tv that shuts off after being on for awhile. Sometimes it comes back on immediatly and sometimes it dosent. When I try to turn it back on it clicks like it is turming on but then shuts off immediatly.

 

 

   Does anybody have any idea what is causint this? The tv is about 5 years old.

I have a samsung tv that is

I have a samsung tv that is about 2 years old.  About 2 months ago it randomly started shutting itself off.  The only way to get it to come back on is to unplug and replug the set.  It seems as though it's been shutting itself off much more frequently.  When it started it was about once every couple of days, not it does it at least once a day.  I've searched the internet and cannot find anything on this subject.

Does anyone know what could be the problem, and approximately how much it would be to get repaired?  I didn't spend all that much on the tv and want to see if the repair would be worth it.  Please Help!!!  This is really starting to become a pain!

annisa888, If you used a video tape with this TV set the DVD should work as well because both use whats called composite video output to the input jack.  Like I said before make sure the DVD did not switch color standard modes.

mrh769, this could be anything from a bad main power supply regulation problem or the sweep supply, to a simple bad connection in the main or sweep power supplies.  This will most likely be a problem for a trained tech to handle unless you have the proper equipment to troubleshoot solid state circuit boards.  No quick fix that i know of with this set but a model number is always good to list when asking for help. Good Luck and let us know how you made out with this repair.

larry the tv is mitsubishi wt-a42 the stk were getting hot to the point you could like smell them as if they were shorting out  the old one's stk 392-110 and the new one's were 180 hope this helps

I have an older Mitsubishi

I have an older Mitsubishi Big Screen Model # VS-5062 that until recently worked great. Everything still works fine, but now the volume is stuck to almost a whisper...Doesn't matter if I use the remote or the control panel on the front of the tv...the bar that relates to the volume that appears on the tv goes up and down, but the actual sound doesn't get louder or softer....I would like to know how to fix it, or at least know if there is a way to manually turn it up a little to a louder volume...........PLEASE HELP!!!

Thanks, Larry, I will keep trying to get the configuration working; no sense in waiting since there is no telling when our Sony will come home :) Thanks for your help...this is a very cool forum. PS: Seems like alot of newer TVs have power supply problems, which is what our Sony is suffering from.

HELP!! no picture, no sound. 

We have a 60" magnavox about 5 years old, its not HD or anything.  Never had any problems or signs of it "fizzling" out.  The TV is hooked up to surround sound but the tv speakers are still on.  Today however the picture went out but the satellite was still producing the sound through the stereo, when muting the stereo, there was no sound coming from the tv.  we checked other tvs in the house they are fine, we plugged a different tv into the same outlet, satellite input, and surround sound and all worked fine.  The led power light on the magnavox comes on when the tv is powered on however ther is absolutely no clicking or electroninc feedback sounds during the powerup.  Help!  I really not interested in spending 2500.00 Money mouth on a new tv at this time and unfortunately my spoiled husband with his expensive electronic gadgets would never go for anything less!!  Please tell me this can be fixed!Cry

  can someone plz help?  i have a sylvania plazma monitor tv and i can t get it to turn on.......watching tv last nite and it all of a sudden shut off. we tried to turn it on but it cllicks on then immediatly clicks off...... plz what can i do? is this some then i can fix myself?       thank you much aprieciated

Chrijenn,  If you do not have

Chrijenn,  If you do not have any TV repair experience, you really should call in a tech to assist you in this repair.  This problem sounds like a bad component in the main power supply or the sweep power supply.  You will need to first get a service manual, have the proper tools and test equipment and the knowledge on how the switch mode power supply works as well as how the sweep supply works.  Sorry but repairs such as these are not quick fixes.  I would certainly say it would be worth the estimate fee at least, as you said the TV set is only five years old,  but if it is going to cost more then half of a new set, I would not invest into the set.  Good Luck and let us know how you made out with this repair.

I have a 52" big screen,

I have a 52" big screen, Mitsubishi VS-50VA1 tv, our neighborhood had a transformer blow and now when I turn the tv on I have sound but no picture.  I can use the menu and at the top of the screen it says "Tuner out" everyone tells me it has to do with either changing the tuner back to tv (I cant find where) or the pip (never worked anyway). If some one can please help me I would appreciate it.

we checked and there's no picture with the dvd player or vcr either.

I have a vintage Sony TV,

I have a vintage Sony TV, that I bought at a garage sale. I am having trouble hooking an Atari, computer, Nintendo, or a VCR up to this Sony TV. I hooked the Atari up to the Sony TV, by using a TV/Computer switch box. I hooked both wires in back of the TV. I tried both UHF screws and VHF screws, to put the leads and wires in back of the TV. I tried channel 4, but nothing comes in. I just get the TV broadcast, instead of the Atari. One day I tried hooking the Nintendo up to this Sony TV. I used the same TV/Computer switch box, because it is an older TV. I hook the Nintendo up with this TV/Computer switch box. I had the RF channel selector from the Nintendo to channel 4 and Sony TV set to channel 4, but still no Nintendo coming into the TV. I just get the TV program broadcasting instead. I know for sure that the Nintendo can hook into an Atari TV/Computer switch box, intead of its own Nintendo RF adapter. I do notice, that this vintage Sony TV does not have channel 3,6,8,10 or channel 12. It only has twelve channel buttons that you can press. And that's what it only came with. Instead of the channels going from 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12 and 13. It goes from 2,22,4,5,28,7,30,9,40,11,50 and 13. It seems like these are channels from channel "U". My vintage Sony TV does not seem to have the regular channels. Some of the modern TV's don't come with Channel "U". Some of the TV's from the 80's came with Channel U,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12 and 13 on one knob. And another Channel knob, that had over fifty channels, that were used from Channel "U".

Is there any way that I could get my Atari, Computer, Nintendo, or VCR hooked up to this vintage Sony TV? Are there any such thing as channel boxes, that I could get for my vintage Sony TV, so that I could also have the regular channels like channel 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12 and 13? Is my vintage Sony TV really compatible? Any converters for my vintage Sony TV? Can you please help me on how I could get this vintage Sony TV to work with my Atari, Computer, Nintendo, or VCR? Could you please tell me what converters or inverters could possibly work with this vintage Sony TV? Please help.

I would really be grateful if someone could give me an answer for this, or even what you think it might be.....just a little help???....Also I've tried external speakers with no avail.....I'm stuck!!!

This might sound silly, but I believe that there is a speaker "switch" available on one of the menus.  This would disable the internal speaker via the remote.  This feature is designed for those that have the TV connected to an external stereo system.  Verify that the speaker is turned on.  If you don't have this option, there are electronic volume control chips inside the set as well as an audio amp chip.  Either of these could be defective.  Try the suggestion from Larry first.  If the CPU is confused, the disconnect should reset it.  Otherwise, a call to a tech with the proper equipment will be necessary.  BTW: The cost for this repair (if vol chip or amp chip) should not be more than $30 or so for parts plus a labor charge.

Without any knowledge on how the TV circuits work, no there is not a whole lot a consumer can do these days to repair their own tV sets.  On a set that is dead, one would need to know how to check the main power supply as well as all of the safety shutdown points and circuits as alot of times when one circuit fails, the set will detect a fault and shut down the power supply  or the horizontal sweep drive to prevent other circuit damage to the set.  Stay safe and call in a pro to assist you in this repair.

I have the opportunity to get

I have the opportunity to get a Sony 53 inch rear projection TV for free from a relative. It died and my uncle already had someone come out and troubleshoot the problem. Technician told him the High Voltage Unit needs to be replaced.  The High Voltage kit cost $380 and the labor nearly as much.  Can anyone tell me if I can order the High Voltage kit from Sony ?  I worked as a Computer Technician for many years and have swapped out numerous High Voltage Power supplies in Laser printers and so I am thinking that swapping out a High Voltage Power Supply in a Rear Projection TV might be a good project for me.  Is this a do-able project and as far as difficulty goes from 1 - 10 ? I would appreciate any assistance in this matter.

I didn't think it was silly that there would be a switch in the menu, but I already tried it....that's what gave me the idea  to even try external speakers. That didn't work either....I haven't tried unplugging it for as long as Larry said (i've only left it for maybe a half hour)...so I'll try that next....if not I guess I'm stuck....I hate not being able to fix things on my ownLaughing...thank you for the help!!!

Hi everyone, I have a 2 month

Hi everyone, I have a 2 month old Sharp 52 inch LC52D62U. The last few weeks when I power up the set I get a plaid screen with what looks like red green and blue verticle and horizontal lines forming the plaid pattern, any help with this would greatly be appreciated.

I called Sharp, they have not had any reports of this problem. The tech then walked me through a reboot. Everything came back ok, no trouble codes.

I have a Sony KV36fs76 Tv

I have a Sony KV36fs76 Tv which is 4 years old. After 30-60 minutes the TV switches itself off and the red light flashes. I can switch it back on and it is OK for a few minutes then goes off again. After a few cycles it will stay on for a long time before going off again. Can anyone suggest a solution?

I have a Hitachi 51F500 51"

I have a Hitachi 51F500 51" rear projection HDTV manufactured 5/2003 purchased later that year and which until recently worked very well. 

There is now no picture, except for when you access a menu, and then the menu is black and white snowy flickering, like an old black and white TV with the vertical knob mis-adjusted.  The menu is not even legible enough to accuarately navigate through unfortunately, not only due to the flickering but also the weakness of the display.  I had the TV speaker disabled and am unable to define whether the audio still works although i suspect it may not.

The TV stays on as long as I want it to, and has none of the shut off tendencies that I've read in other posts.  It's at least $100 to have someone come to look at the TV, and one technician advised it would be very easy to have this repair cost upwards of $400.  I'd like to have the TV repaired, but it may be more cost effective to replace with an LCD. 

I've tried the easy fix of leaving it unplugged for a few hours but did not produce any change in the behavior of the TV.

Also, I have queried the other posts related to this particular model TV, and did read about the frequency of "coolant" drip issue onto the board.  I see no evidence of any dripping of any fluid inside of my TV.

Finally, I opened up the rear of the TV, removed some of the back paneling and exposed the three projection bulbs.  While I am able to get no picture whatsoever on the front of the TV, if I put my hand in the path of the bulbs I'm able to see colors flickering and reflecting off of my hand.   Upon inspection, all three bulbs are emitting their correct respective lights, but there is a steady rapid flickering and weakness in the light I assume resulting in it's inability to reflect the picture.

Any ideas on the source of the problem?  Is this familiar to anyone?  Any help or advisement would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.
