Still Need A Hulu Invite?

Demand for Hulu was pretty high on my last post - and we managed to serve well over 50 beta invites. While I really appreciate folks chipping in to help out their fellow readers by giving away some of their invites, I thought it’d be more efficient to reach out directly to Hulu for support - and they’ve provided 100 accounts to distribute. So if you still need access, leave a comment and I’ll start filling orders tomorrow. First come, first served.

Cradlepoint MBR1000: Best EVDO Router Ever?

cradlepoint1.jpg

I pretty regularly end up in locations where I just can’t function - there’s no network drop, the connection is poor because it’s being shared with dozens of high bandwidth applications, I’m a guest and the LAN requires a local user account, etc. So, I’ve been keeping my eyes open for the right EVDO router. I’ve played with a few models including the Kyocera unit we picked up for CES - only to discover it doesn’t support the two current cards we have… which led to a somewhat disappointing luncheon demo at the Wynn. (The unit’s since been returned.)

Analyst Feels Good About DTV & TiVo

Bear Stearns is out with a new report today suggesting DirecTV may warm to the idea of renewing ties with TiVo under Liberty Media’s ownership, leaving Murdoch’s NDS venture behind. Or perhaps choosing to upsell a TiVo solution.

Apple Follows Amazon?s Lead

itunes99cent.jpgApple has followed Amazon Unbox’s lead in offering weekly 99 movie rental specials. Call it a loss leader - these sales reinforce their respective movie rental service offerings. When we still had the bedroom 32″ SDTV, we often enjoyed Amazon’s discounted films via TiVo. (Though we haven’t enjoyed watching them on our HDTVs - letter and pillar-boxes? Please!) It’s not yet clear if iTunes will offer multiple weekly selections like Amazon (did), or if the sale will be limited to one select feature as it is this week (The Hours).

Automatically Embed Album Art Into MP3 Collection

mp3tag.jpg

If you’re anything like me you’ve got a large collection of MP3 music files on your hard drive. Some of my MP3s were acquired from places like iTunes and Amazon, while others were ripped from my CD collection. The end result is a pile of MP3s - some with album art, many without.

At home I listen to music via SageTV’s HTPC application and on the road I use an iPod - and it’s always helpful to have album art embedded into the file itself instead of having an additional photo file. MP3 files with embedded album art are just more portable.
