ABC and Cox Communications have announced a new VOD service that will let cable subscribers watch primetime network shows any time they want. The catch? No fast forwarding through commercials.

Microsoft’s cross-platform multimedia engine Silverlight 1.0 has only been shipping since September, yet they’ve gone ahead and announced the v2 beta is on the way:

Hymn Receives Cease & Desist Notice from Apple

If you’ve ever used the myFairTunes or QTFairTunes programs to strip DRM from Apple’s FairPlay or Windows Media encoding, then you’re probably familiar with the Hymn Project. Last week, they received a cease and desist letter demanding that all download links be removed from the site. From their forum:

I officially entered old age last week (though that might be a slight exaggeration…). But on the bright side I got a lot of great birthday greetings and gadget gifts.

Messages came in over Facebook, via text, voicemail, e-cards, and (my favorite) via a Flip video - from my old office colleagues wishing me a happy birthday, and it was a perfect snapshot of what goes on in that den of iniquity every day.

DivX Shuttering Stage6 This Week

Looks like DivX has given up on Stage6 - it’s just too costly to operate… While they didn’t lay out exactly what those expenses are, in addition to the obvious bandwidth and hosting requirements of video, I assume policing content and the potential lawsuits (or costly licensing deals) were factors.

TiVo To Cease Referral Program?

Rumor has it that the TiVo Rewards referral program will cease as of 2/28. While the person reporting this doesn’t have much of a history on the TiVo Community Forum, the associated TiVo credit card offer does appear to be inactive:
