Video Playback / Recording Devices

We've had our dvd player for over a year, then yesterday it started to have a rolling picture, even when there's no dvd in it. Please help

I have a Zenith DVD\VCR combo Model XBV 442.
The VCR works fine but when you switch it to DVD the screen starts rolling.

When I put a DVD in to the player it will spin but most of the time I get a "Disc Error" message. I usually will put in a DVD cleaner cd and sometimes that will help but most of the time it does not. Anyone know why this is happening?
