Television and Home Theater

In the standby mode the primary side of the power supply makes a buzzing noise. The p.s. drive signal is broken up. Nothing burns up but is annoying. When the set is turned on everhthing works fine. The power supply is quiet and the picture and the sound is normal. SAMS 4975

My TV is blank w the standby light flashing a 9 blink code. The repair manual says that a diode is bad on the 'A' board. I ordered a new one (the complete sony 'A' board) and it should arrive shortly. My question is should Iground the chassis to a water pipe? I do have a 3' X 5" antistatic rubber mat and 7500v gloves; but are there any high voltage areas I should be aware of. I've built my own computers the last 10 years or so and I used to work in electric shops for at least 10 years. So, I'm not a newbie but I'm not an expert either.

i've tried replacing the rectifier diodes with no luck. all voltages read as they should even when i power down, but after an hour power down that c840 cap blows. this is driving me nuts. f802 reads as it should. i took off the casing to the startup relay and if i manually connect the relays, the set powers up fine, as long as i hold the relays together. the relay won't hold with c840 blown. any reason you think why that fucker keeps going bad?
