My TV is blank w the standby light flashing a 9 blink code. The repair manual says that a diode is bad on the 'A' board. I ordered a new one (the complete sony 'A' board) and it should arrive shortly. My question is should Iground the chassis to a water pipe? I do have a 3' X 5" antistatic rubber mat and 7500v gloves; but are there any high voltage areas I should be aware of. I've built my own computers the last 10 years or so and I used to work in electric shops for at least 10 years. So, I'm not a newbie but I'm not an expert either. Any advice would be appreciated. thanks, bobalua
bobalua. I have the same problem as you, except my tv is the 51 inch modle. KDP-51WS550. I have found that there is a diode on the A board that must be replaced, as that is what the repair manual says. The issue that I see is that the A board is the bottom middle board. It is not easily accessable. I ordered the diode from Sony. Waiting for it to be delievered.
Let me know how you make out and I'll do the same.
I bought my diode from Sony. It's $3 so I ordered a few of them and will keep them in stock for the next time... I only replaced D6114.
I replaced my diode this weekend and everything went fine. It took about 3 hours start to finish. The key to the job is labeling!!! You have to completely dissamble most of the lower portion of your tv. If you don't label each side of the wire you removed you will have trouble putting it back together. I started with the first wire I removed and labled that "1" on both sides. Then moved to the next wire, removed it and labeled it "2" on both sides, etc... I kept my numbers together so that 1 through 7 were on the first board removed. Then 7 through whatever were on the next board, etc. This makes things organized when you need to put everything back together. Once the A board is removed, I used a cutter to snip one side of the diode. This way I could heat up one side of the solder pad and use a needle nose plier to pull it out of the board from underneath. Then do the other side. Without cutting the diode, removal is harder. Make sure you notice the "black side" of the diode. You need to install the new diode the same way it came out. Also when soldering use a heat sink to absorb some of the heat from the soldering iron. I put mine on the underside of the solder pad. In total there were 5 boards that sit on top of the A board along with all the cabling. On a scale of 1 to 10. 10 being the hardest, I give this job an 7. At first glance, this jobs looks impossible but if you take your time and label everything you should be sucessful.
The tools needed for this job are philips and flat screw driver. Flashlight. 15W soldering iron (don't use a soldering gun as it is to powerfull). solder. heat sink. cutters. Needle nose pliers. White tape and extra fine sharpie marker.
I have a KDP-57WS655, 9 blinks pause for about 3 seconds then 9 blinks again. What I have done in the past is unplug the set while it was blinking and after several hours, most cases over night, when I plugged it back in it would come on. After doing this for several weeks it started to not come on everytime, now it is not coming on at all.
I had a tv repairman look at it and he said it was a problem in the A board and since he was not a Sony Certified repairman he would not touch it.
Larry indicated that the problem most likely would be the switching regulator, how many regulators are there in this model? And is it located on the A board? Liquidvw also say he had the same problem different model, and he found a bad diode. How did he determine it was a diode and not a switching regulator.
Could use a little help, Thank You
www.tristatemodule.com Visit the site for instructions. I shipped my G board to them. Gave them $39.95 + 6.95 S&H and they sent my board back repaired. Done Deal!
Wow, thats a surprise! Great, thanks for sharing with us your experience.
