Television and Home Theater

This is in regard to a KV-32S16 Sony TV, manufactured in October of 1995 (and purchased in February of 1996 by me!)

Last night, while watching a DVD, the picture went blank.  Well, mostly blank.  There is a small line (1/8" maybe) of random colors at the top of the screen, and the rest of the monitor is glowing a little, but still - blank.

It is still blank when the input signal is switched to Tivo, TV, etc.  All have sound, but no picture.

I bought this TV on Ebay about 6 months ago, probably a bad idea (SONY KP57WS500) and here is the problem.  The tv comes on for 30 seconds and then red goes across the screen ending with all red.  The picture goes blank and turns off.  I have entered the diagnostic screen and there is a 1 next to (5 AKB) and a 1 next to (8 HV).  The red light blinks 8 times.  Any ideas?  Should I buy a new TV?  Any info would be greatly appreciated.  THANKS

I have a sony rear projection TV model KP-53HS10. The timer/standby light flashes 5 times. Picture blinks, sound is normal. I have it plugged into a wall outlet and have unplugged it, waited and plugged it back in. It's normal for about 2 min and the 5 flashes reappear with no apparent pattern. Any help with the diagnostic code?
