Television and Home Theater

my samsung tantus television is having a problem

its a hand me on from parents, 109 cm rear projection

 the only number i can find on it is SP42W5HPX

it was working fine yesterday, but today i have no sound

the picture is fine, but none of the buttons now work

i turn it on and the remote does nothing as well as the buttons on the set itself

if anyone has a suggestion it would be much appreciated

or an opinion on wether or not it is worth while getting someone in to fix it

Hi I'm having trouble with an old TV Set not sure of the make on the it has got Baird, Thorn EMI and Ferguson with 051A3 as the serial number which shows no results when I search for it.  Any way the problem is the contrast and brightness, I can't turn them up I have no original remote for it and the Universal one I bought doesn't control the TV too good.  There is no buttons on the set itself, I know it's the brightness cos' I can see a slight picture but it's really dark any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is kinda funny, I purchased a WD-62825 Projection TV from Magnolia Audio in Torrance. A close friend bought the same TV the same day from Phil & Jims and my cousin bought the same TV in Reno within a week. My tv started the GLOD first, I had the extended warranty and long story short the tv was replaced with a new 65 inch 90 DAYS LATER ! My buddys tv crapped out (GLOD) 2 weeks after mine and my cousin a month later. Thats 3 tvs within 30 days ?!?!? Funny thing though, when my tv was replaced they REFUSED to take the old tv ?!!?
