Television and Home Theater

it's like it can't locate edge of screen or i have like 100 magnets that are pulling from everywhere ( which i don't ) - if you leave the tv on for like an hour it used to get better - not anymore - am i doomed to pay 500 to have some nubhead come fix it ?

My RCA Tv set displays only a vertical video line (3/4 in wide). Audio is OK. The TV (36in sccreen) is 11 yrs old. The problem started a few weeks ago. In past the video returned after some time the TV was ON or after a knock to to external enclosure. This time video does not return. The video stays within the 3/4 vertical line.

The power went out here and when I put a DVD in my player I now have an annoying narrator describing everything that is happening in the movie! For example, the opening scene of the movie is a thunderstorm and a guy standing in a forest. Usually thisi would just play quietly with music in the background. Now there is a narrator who describe the whole scene, "Scene opens and there is a thunderstorm. A man stands in a dark forest as music plays..." I can't figure out if it is a problem with the dvd or if it is a setting on the TV or DVD player.
