Larry Dillon
You will need to call the

You will need to call the cable company and see how to program the cable remote.   This remote is a very expensive replscement for the Sony TV.  I cannot find that model in my data sheets..   Most Sony TV sets can only be programed by the buttons on the remote, but since you were able to erase a channel, maybe there is a way to add a channel also.  i will need to do some further research and see what I can find out.

tiggerpi said: My mom has a 1995 RCA t.v. Model#P52731WK. The elec. co. updated the meter. The t.v. was on when they did this. The power went off when they took the old meter out and came back on when they put the new meter in. This was in a matter of a couple of minutes. When the power came back on the t.v. made a loud popping noise and nothing else. The elec. co. employee came inside and unplugged the t.v. and waited a minute and replugged it. Nothing happened. Checked the breaker and it was fine. The outlet that the t.v. was plugged into is fine. Push the power button and nothing happens. It is as if it is not plugged into an outlet. Is there a reset switch? If so, instructions on how to do this? Or will this even help? If not what is wrong? The t.v. had no previous problems and has worked fine until this happened. I think there was a power surge when this happened, but no way to prove it and mom has no finances to pay a repairman because my dad passed away within a few days of this happening. The elec. co. says they are not liable. Go figure?? I need any assistance in what the problem is and an easy fix if there is one or the knowledge to prove the elec. co. is resonsible for this problem. Please help.

Hi folks,

Hi folks,

I have a 2 year old Panasonic 46 in projection tv model # PT-47WXC43G.

While watching it the other night, it shut down. When it did, I heard the same "click" as it makes when turning on/off from standby mode. The standby indicator (red) began flashing twice.

I have checked the main fuse (ok - it's the only one I see) and observed from the rear (panel off) while powering up. There is an initial "click" and then another and I can see the guns start to glow, and then in 3-5 seconds same secondary click and the guns shut down, and the indicator flashes twice in intervals until I disconnect power.

These symptoms are consistent over several observations. There are no burning smells or arcing evident.

Ideas? I live too far away from and repair facility to get an in-home repair done, and want to avoid having to haul it in if I can take care of it myself.

I'm not an experienced tv or electronics tech, but do have ohmmeter and technical expertise enough to follow instruction.

All help welcome!

TimCarlisle: The "click" you

TimCarlisle: The "click" you are hearing is the main power relay turning on then off. When the TV detects a fault condition, the set is powered off. This is a safety feature which minimizes additional damage to the set. The fact that the standby light blinks twice is an indication of the problem source. I am not familiar with your model. Perhaps Larry can indicate the fauilt code?
I'll look around for the code as well.

I use to be able to turn tv off and back on and it would self correct, but not anymore....What part should I be looking to get. Menu says #6 adjust projection tv, but I have no #6..Is there a self adjusting componet I need...

This means that the tube has lasted time enough and is bad,or the tuner may need resoldering  on all grounds and replace the  eeprom.

Double d This looks like a vertical foldover. Not really sure. You should have the set checked out by a pro as it may be a problem in the digital board or a component problem. Most liklly not a user repairable thing.

In my last post I identified

In my last post I identified the error code being flashed as "2" flashes -

it was wrong, the error code is THREE (3) flashes. All other info is correct.

This is regarding the Panasonic 46 in HD projection Model # PT-47WXC43G.

Appreciate the help!

Tim, First thing I can

Tim, First thing I can advice you is there is alot of high voltage inside this TV set and some peeps study and go to school to learn this circuit diagnose thing.. Saying that, first thing you will need to do is get a download of a service manual At http://www.servicemanuals.net/results... When you get the manual, you will need to look up the main power supply regulation circuit. Check the main B+ when you turn on the TV set and see if when the set shuts back off, how high does the B+ go up to? If it stays within a few volts or two of what the schematic says it should be at, you may have a high voltage or over voltage shut down in the sweep power supply. This can be a tricky type of repair and troubleshooting like this is a shot in the dark. If your lost by now, you will need to send me a copy of that service manual so I can tell you what and what not to check. You may also need an ESR type capcitor meter as repairing a TV set with only a meter is a long shot but possible. You will also need to get a small soldering iron and know how to solder and unsolder solid state printed circuit boards. Let us know how you make out with this set and Good Luck

Thanks Dan & LARRY...

Thanks Dan & LARRY...

It would help a ton to know what the 3 flash error code indicates.

I'm capable of avoiding the hi-voltage hazards and reading the service manual with help on interpretation (diag). But I don't know the degree to which I'll have to learn and whether it will be worth it or not.

Knowing what the error code is indicating would help me decide whether to take the time to learn and fix it or bite the bullet and find a repair facility in San Antonio and have it fixed; as I mentioned, that's a major hassel due to location (I'm twenty miles from S.A. and would have to load and haul it in as there are no services locally).

Being a Master auto tech and jack-of-all trades master of few, I hate having someone else fix something particularly when I can't judge their diagnosis and/or competence. My problem I know.

Anyway, if it's reasonable for me diag and replace a part, I can solder boards, etc. I would consider replacing most parts as the "easy" part; it's the diag I would have to learn with guidance.

I know it's impossible for you to evaluate my competence, but all help will be appreciated.

The three blink code on a

The three blink code on a Panasonic is a high voltage shutdown error code. Just found this out from an authorized repair friend of mine. Most odf the time it is a regulation problem or the fly is bad.

Please help with what seems

Please help with what seems to be a convergence problem. When the TV is first turned on the top and bottom of the picture is bent, but when I kick the lower side of the TV it will straighten back out. It takes about three-five times. I'm afraid my kids are going to think this type of thing is a normal activity if you want to watch TV. Kicking it beats the 1500.00 replacement, but now everybody on screen has turned green or sometimes even black and white. I'm running out of places to kick! Any solutions regarding what needs to be replaced and where it is located. Kidding aside I can handle a solder gun and I'm really comfortable tearing things apart to make repairs, so just let it rip. Thanks, Larry

Larry Dillon
Larry, a kick is not a way to

Larry, a kick is not a way to fix something Man! It simply means there is a bad solder connection somewhere on the internal boards. The problem will get worse as it seems to have done. If you know how to solder on solid state printed circuit boards, then you may be able to find a bad coinnection if you have had some sort of electronic background. A TV set is not a place to be experiementing inside of. If you don't have any background or troubleshooting experience at all with TV sets, You really need to take my advice and call a pro to assist you to find this bad connections, as it really should not cost that much and so you will be here another day for your kids to be with you. There is alot of high voltage inside these tV sets, even when they are unplugged. Stay safe and Good Luck. Please let us know how this turned out for you.

Larry, I just found what

Larry, I just found what appears to be a slight burned area on the board that has the high voltage supply (fly?) to the crt guns. There are 3 (diodes?) .25 wide by .5 (in) wide; they have two legs each. I have only looked at the top of the board so far, not the bottom. The area around these is not black like an obvious burn but more like what I describe as a heat-induced discoloration - just definitively darker than normal board and everywhere else around it. There are no "witness" marks like an arc would leave.

Does this sound like anything? Also, I checked the link for the service manual - they list two for download, one for $17 and one for $24 but don't say what the difference is. Do you know?

Lastly - what is what you call the 'fly'? Old memory tells me it's a coil that jumps the voltage before supplying it to the crt guns. If this is what it is, then it has a secondary lead going to a junction/splitter with 3 output leads - one for each gun.

Sorry I'm not familiar with the right nomenclature.

Thanks!\

You need to check one big ceramic resistor called stand off resistor is white near  the fuse, can't help more you did not give chassis#.

I Have a GE tv model# 8-2548

I Have a GE tv model# 8-2548 chassis# ctc130a the volume goes up and down some times i can control it other times i cant. I can turn it off for awhile and it will stop but it starts back volume jumps all the way up unable to turn it down unless i turn the set off for awhile.

Man this set brings back

Man this set brings back loads of memorys from the horrors with this chassis.  First off this set is about 20 years old!  But that being said.  Common problem with this set .  99% of the time, when the volume would go up and down all by itself and you could not turn it down, you had a defective MTT001 tuner control module, or the pin conncetions between the tuner and the control module, the many plug connctions, and several grounds inside the control module had to be simply resoldered.  I lost count of how many of these I used to do on a daily basis.  If you have the soldering ability and know how to work on solid state printed circuit boards, you could most likely fix this yourself.  If you do not, I think it would be time to buy a new TV set, as a repair shop, if they even take in the set to look at, and if they could repair the control module, would run you about 150 or so to repair this TV set.  If the module was defective, and if you could locate one, be ready to spend at least 200 to 300 bucks.  I happen to still have the parts list, the service manual as well as the schematic diagram on this set.  If you want them, ask and leave an E-Mail addy, and I would be happy to forward them to you.  Now I warn you, as much heat this puppy gave out while working, and the age of the set, do not be surprised if somethings start to fall apart when you start taking the set apart.  Remember this is not the TV set to be experimenting around inside of.  Good Luck, and let us know how you made out.
