Need some help....I was watching my 36" Panasonic CT36E13 this evening when all of a sudden, I heard what I remeber to be a "zap" noise and the picture immediately faded out. I tried both the remote and the television power button and nothing. I reset my surge protector, nothing. Unplugged the TV and plugged back in nothing...I did notice however, that when the TV is plugged in, I can hear a faint clicking somewhere in the set.
By all means, I'm not a tech-head...I'm lost, and my 2 year old daughter is extremely upset that she is missing her cartoons!!!!! Any help/hints/advice? TV is only 3 years old.....Reading some previous posts, I guess I'll leave it unplugged for a while?
If you are not tech savay, I would recommend that you call a local repair center as there are no user replacable parts inside this TV set, unless you have the proper tools as well as the service information such as a service manual, the know how to solder and unsolder and a few pieces of test equipment. this problem your having could be anything from a main or sweep power supply problem.. Please play it safe and call a repair company as a TV set is no place to be experimenting around inside of. Good Luck, and please let us know how this turns out.
I have a Hitachi 51" wide screen (51SWX20B). It's probably about 5 years old and when you turn it on it turns itself off after about 2 seconds. It seems to me to be a fuse or something but I am far from an electronics expert. There is only one TV repair close by and they want me to bring the TV in and they also have a questionable reputation. Thanks in advance for any help.
i have a RCA big screen tv, called home theatre model number P52731WK this tv started to have red lines out of wack but after heated up would straighten up this continued for a while buy now the red wavy lines will not straighten up they are there continously and make the picture distorted, we do not have a reliable repair man in this town and i need to know if the problem can be diagnosed here and someone tell me what to do to fix it. i am not having any other problems just the red wavy lines, thanks you very much
Daniel, do you know how to read a service manual? Can you solder and own a multimeter? If the answer is no, it would be best for you to take the set to a pro as these sets do not have modules that you can swap out. These sets are repaired to the componet level. This is not something you can learn overnight or even in a couple of weeks. if you get the manual and you know how to troublkeshoot solid state electronic circuits boards, then first thing I would do is to check fuses in the set. If those are blow, install a 100 watt light bulb across the fuses and see if the set will try to come on or if the bulb glows bright or pulses on and off. If it does there is a short in the set. Your first complaint was a distorted picture with the red lines out., I would check the convergence IC for shorts. Then if they are bad, they could have cause a problem in the power supply, as the more you let a set have certain problems, the greater the risk that somethine else in the set will go bad. Good Luck, and let us know how you made out.
help i have a sdp 5065 pioneer projection that takes longer and longer to poerup both auio and video , but after aq minute it all powers up and works great, seems to be taking longer and longer , acts like a low voltage transformer or cap. anyone rmemeber this probelm and what the fix was or is???? help help larry 618-893-2252 [email protected]
jt, your set has a power supply problem or a fault in the sweep supply. You will need toi get a manual and check if the set is going into highvoltage shutdown, over voltage shutdown or if the power supply or the sweep supply is even starting up. If you have no solid state repair experience, please play it safe and call out a tech ot take the set into the local repair depot, as this is a job for an experienced tech. Good luck, let us know how you made out getting this set fixed.

j t, it depends on how old the set is. 200 bucks to repair the power supply in a 10 year old TV set would be a waist of cash in my opinion. But if the set, lets say is 6 years or less, Yea take a chance. Let us know what you decide.
The set is only four years old. Do you think I am taking a chance? The tec told ne that it is a good set and he do's not see many come in for service. He also told me he only sees this do to lightning or surge he said he really do's not see this in the winter the set was plugged in to a surge protector.I hope I can get another 4 years. What do you think.
I have a Toshiba 42" Theaterwide rear project TV that recetly started developing some problems. After moving it to a new apartment, when first turned on the picture would be arguably "messed up" for lack of a better term. It wasn't like a color convergence problem, but more like a scrambling of the image where horizontal sections of the picture image would display and flicker. Eventually, after the TV seemingly warmed up, the problem would go away.
Unfortunately, the problem is now persistant and I'm wondering if there is anything I can do to service the TV myself.
I have experience fixing smaller electronics like DVD players and AV receivers mostly by hunting for blown capacitors on power supplies and replacing them. However, I'm not sure if this type of problem can be fixed merely by doing that. Any advice?
Nevermind I think I found a thread describing my exact problem!
The "Toshiba picture is zig-zag" thread.. Looks like it is a problem with capacitors in the hyper board, I am really excited that this me be a replacement of capacitors fix..
Yes it could be your problem and you can go to mcmone.com or tritronics.com to get the proper capacitors. Good Luck and let us know how you made out with this repair. Just remember to be very carefull when replacing surface mounted capacitors.

bodyman there is a bad capacitor but I do not know what capacitor was bad. I used to replace the entire module as we were Pioneer authorized. Best thing to do is get a good Capacitor ESR meter and start first with the main power supply and work your way though the TV set. Good Luck

Hi, all... Brand new to this forum, with a dumb question: Does anyone know if a 1993 Zenith Sentry 2 TV is DVD player compatible? We hooked up a Panasonic DVD player in the VCR connection and get a B&W picture and no sound. The TV works fine with the cable connection. It has never been hooked up to any aux. equipment. (our reg. TV is temporarily out, the Zenith is a temp. substitution) Thanks for anyone's input... annisa
Does anyone know what would be wrong in this situation?...2006 Sony KDF-50E2000 50 in. HDTV LCD TV will not power on from the factory. It is an ebay auction and wondered if it would be worth buying for $500.
annisa888, did you have this DVD player ever attached to a set that worked? Try it on another TV set. if it still has no color, go into the menu and check the mode that this DVD is in. It should be in the NTSC mode not the PAL mode. if it works on another TV set, then there is most likely an input circuit problem in the old Zenith. Also a model number of the DVD player would be nice so i can see if I can find an owners manual on it. Do you have an owners manual? Good luck and let us know if this helps or what happens.

jd5449, what brand and model number of the set you have. Also the stk IC's are suppose to get hot but not too hot to touch.
