When Did You Take the DVD Plunge?

To think that there was a time when movies didn't come on disc... strange. DVD has been the mainstay of movies for the better part of a decade. However, there was a time when VHS ruled as the movie format of choice for a long, long time. Many of you still have that VCR hooked up, but I doubt it gets as much play time as it used to.

DVD has been around since 1997, but only the early adopters picked up DVD players back then. When did you take the DVD plunge?

dvd: premature chapter jumping?

I have a dvd player that is a few months old. Fine till a week ago. Now very regularly when playing a dvd it will prematurely jump ahead to the next "chapter" of a movie before the one currently playing has ended. Or to a later chapter break, not necessarily the next. It now does this regularly enough to make dvds more or less unwatchable. And it does it even when I play brand new dvds straight out of their cellophane so it's definitely the machine, not the disk that's the problem. Is there a simple fix for this or do I need to get a new dvd?

Sony DVP-NS75H Upscaling DVD

When I connect this player to my Samsung rear projection HDTV using a HDMI to DVI cable, I am getting a blue haze around the bottom and left edges of the screen. I have tried 2 different cables, so it's not the cable. When I switch to an S-Video connection, I do not get the haze. I have tried different settings on the dvd player but nothing fixes it. Anyone have any ideas why I get this blue haze only with the HDMI to DVI connection?

Two DVD players gone at once

I have two DVD players. I don't think that the exact models are important, but one is an Omni, and the other is a Digitor cheap thing.
