scratched sony trinitron gdm-fw900 24 inch crt monitor

my monitor was scratched by my daughter. ive been told the tube needs to be replaced but after many hours searching the net this is not feasable because of the high cost (from $1000 to $1700). the screen obviously has some kind of plastic coating on it because of the way its scratched. does anyone have any suggestions on polishing or maybe replacing the plastic?

Samsung 46" LNS4695DX Flashing purple when up-converting

There's the problem:

I have my Samsung 46" 1080P TV connected to my Samsung model # DVD-HD860 up-convert DVD player. When playing a DVD and up-converting to 1080i the screen starts flashing purple like crazy. When I switch it to 720P, it works fine. 1080i is the only issue. It is NOT flashing when watching cable TV in 1080i, only DVDs.

I am using Monster 1000 series HDMI cables. I tried switching cables and it still flashes. So, it not the cables.
