Television and Home Theater

Help! I've just joined the 21st Century and bought a digital Panasonic TV. The TV works fine, but when I tried to connect it to my LG hard drive recorder I just get an analogue picture. I've retuned it, connected it up with a HDMI connector, read the book several times and I'm becoming frustrated. We have a good antenna on the roof so that shouldn't be a problem. Also, SBS through the video is in wide-screen when the TV is not. Everyone is obese.

I have an NEC CT-2020A. When it is connected to cable the channels skip from channel 65 to channel 95 and then goes up to channel 99 before returning to channel 1. Punching in the numbers on my universal remote does not grant access to the missing channels either. Comedy Central in my area is on channel 66, so you can see my dilemma. Now when my cable is disconnected the television will go through channels 66-94.

I just finished doing the advanced convergance which is perfect on both colors, but i still seem to have an unclear image. It seems that there is a shadow on all printed type. I thought that i had eithor misalligned guns, or maby dirty back screen or guns.
