Television and Home Theater

hi, i have the above mentioned model, my problem is i got the tv from a freind of a freind who bought it new, one day it would not display a pic but had sound. he had "some guy" check it out and he managed to get it working but it only displays in "full" mode, so it cuts off the top and bottom of the picture on cable or vid 1,2,3. on component 1 or 2 you are able to switch pic sizes but they dislay distorted or the colours dont lign up. oh and on cable or vid input when you hit the "pic size" button, it says not available. other than that it works well.

Can anyone bring me into the 21st century regarding whether LCD Flat Screen TV's are just brilliant or actually pretty crap really?

I thought I should buy one and did, after a lot of comparisons in TV shops. I bought an LG 27LC2R which was a 27" LCD with speakers below - it looked great in the shop. I set it up and thought the picture was stunning as was the sound. I thought this was the best TV I had ever seen. Happy!

I have a Sony tv 36 KV 35S45 which was working fine and then just shut off one night. The standby light blinks constantly when I turn it on with no picture.  The date on the back is Dec 1998. So it didn't make it 10-yrs. I just need to know is this an easy repair, approx how much it might cost me to fix it, and how to find a reputable tv repair shop & any advice you can give me. Thanks Susan
