Television and Home Theater

I'm inspired by reading many of the forum discussions on this site and very impressed as well. I'm a retired electrical engineer and used to design, build and repair graphics boards for the PC industry. My issue is with my Mitsu WS 55908 rear projection tv. It started out about 6 months ago and only  occured in 1080i mode. It looked like the convergence was way out all over the screen. In any other mode it was fine. I called an authorized repair facility in southern CA and after $70 fee, he reached for my remote and set the unit back to factory defaults and it was fine.

I own a new Grundig 15"LCD TV Mdl no GUAMIRA 15B

  It is powerd by 12volt supply through a transformer. It states in the owners manual that it should not be connected to a 12volt battery.

 Doe's anyone know of a way that it can be powerd by a 12volt battery?

Basically, My TV (KP51WS510) will not come on and I am getting 8 blinks. I managed to find the service manuals for a KP51WS500 so I assume for the most part they are simlar in design. This manual states that the Flyback (T8005) is bad according to the 8 blinks. I also found another random post somewhere from a repair person stating he had to replce both the FBT and the HV Block to repair this same problem. I've got a couple of questions I thought I would ask before jumping into this.
