Television and Home Theater

Okay so for the last 2 or 3 weeks my TV would just shut itself off and then turn right back on! I knew that there was something wrong, but had no time to really look at it. Then the other day I went to turn it on and I could hear it cracking and popping in the back and sizzling. I took the back off of the TV and tried to turn it on again and saw that it was sparking! I unplugged the TV and removed a very black and burnt part! I took it to the local electronics store and they told me that it is called a capacitor? No one seems to have it!

My five year old Sony Television has a constant picture "blinking" problem.  I have heard of the "loose connections", "bad picture tube", "needs a wack", and "adjusting a dial or wheel at the back of the set" solutions as possible fixes.  Are they for real or do I actually need to buy a new set?

I have sonyfd trinitron KV-XBR800 television.It wont turn picture on,yet i can hear it clicking to try to come on. The standby light flashes intermittently,yet no picture. I really would like to try and fix this myself,since its so heavy and no1 comes to house and repairs in my ares. Does any 1 have  free step by step help?:((
