Don't Get Bogged Down With The Techie Stuff

Here is where consumers get bogged down with the terminology and
potential choices. Where once there was only the good, old-fashioned
25-inch tube TV, now consumers have the choice of not only a dozen
sizes from 26-inches to 73-inches, but also have to choose between
plasma, LCD, rear projection, and front projection.

The size of the television or video display device you get really
depends on the size of the room environment you will be using it in and
how close you will be sitting to the screen.

Hitachi ultravision 60v710 turns on, goes off within 10 secs

I have a hitachi ultravision 60v710 and when I turn it on, after about 10 seconds to a minutes it goes off.. then it come on and goes off, continuously,. Then in the meantime of that, it sometimes changes to like a bluish green tint, and sometimes it gets distorted at the bottom of the screen... What could this be?

Recommended Cheapest 50"+ LCD or Plasma?

I'm looking around the $1k -1.3k mark - tempting to buy 4x22"s and hook them up with prices today. Monitor only (no tuner) but with component and RGB connectors ok.

 Cheers

Convergence ICs: Sony $62, Sanyo $19, Chinese $6.50

All:

Two questions:
1) I found Encompass Parts (https://www.encompassparts.com) that seemingly provide SONY made components. For the STK4278-L IC on the D board, they have:

SONY Part Number 8-749-923-16 STK4278-L $62.82
Japanese semi's (likely Sanyo) 8-749-923-16 STK4278-L $19.95
SANYO is the brand carried by almost all sites as "genuine SANYO."

Some sites offer Chinese STK4278-L $6.95

Is there a real difference between SANYO and SONY other than brand cost?

Maxent/Samsung PDP colored vertical lines/green blinking light circuit board

Hi there

I've had these colored vertical lines that run the full screen and my remedy for the last few months has been a swift slap to the back of the tv which after 1 to 20 slaps tends to clear the problem and I'm back watching HD.

Unfortunately now I'm getting way too much exercise getting up and down, walking over and slapping it, then a moment later..., sometimes the problem is contiuous, other times the TV is fine for hours. Not to mention the Netflix and gaming I'm missing right now. So I need a solution please.
