AHH! Help! Red Lines Across Screen?

Okay, so I have a Hitachi 43FDX01B TV, and there are these crazy red lines that run horizontally across the screen. Some of them are curving upwards as they go from left to right. It happened initially while I was playing my PS2, and then somehow it stopped after a while, and then started again.
Can someone PLEASE help me out?

Dimming or Darkening TV

I have an eight year old Zenith TV connected to a dish - the set seems to work fine but the picture has become dimmer over time - letters, such as the channel number and other info that is displayed white on a black background, is somewhat fuzzy - so, my question is, is it time for a new TV or is there something that can be done with this set that is cost effective? Thanks for your help, Dave
