I have similar problems with both my RCA 32-inch and a Philips 20-inch. Neither TV is working and both began shutting off and turning back on at short intervals 18 to 20 months after purchase.
I have a 36" RCA with the same problem. It belonged to my parents and a few years ago they spent $200 to have it fixed. The problem is back and it's not worth the $200, given the age of the TV. But after a while of turning off and then back on the TV remains on and the picture is quite nice so I'd love to find and fix the problem myself. I know it can't be rocket science. Could someone out there please help us?
Same thing here. TV shuts off after approx. 5 to 10 seconds. Not even giving me enough time to work with the menu or controls....... Does anyone have an answer for this, that doesnt cost as much as the TV????
littleal, On a set as this one, you are most likly going to have to get a meter that has a hold feature, locate the main regulated b+ point in the main power supply and put the meter with the hold reading onto the b+ point and measure and monitor the main b+ supply to see if maybe the B+ may be causing the problem.. I have done this on a few sets as I was unaware of the problem and as it turned out the hold feature will hold and store the highest voltage that comes onto the b+ terminal as there may be an intermittant component making the b= go high intermittantly and causing the shutdown.. You also could have bad solder sonnections in the sweep power supply and or the horizontal sweep drive circuit. Make sure you get a service manual for this set. The manual is available HERE. Good Luck, and let us all know how you made out with this set.
i have the same problem as above with my rca 27v520t set the tv comes on with sound and either turns right off or i get the wonderful rainbow spectrum or the picture comes in fine then just shuts off i spent 2hrs yesterday just turning it back on trying to watch a show how annoying

I have a 27 inch RCA television, Model no. 27V513T, chasis no. M134C
This unit shut off, intermittingly. I have troubleshooted it, and so far
have found no bad components. Well it obvious, I'm missing something.
