I’m later than I’d have liked in pointing out Chris Lanier’s thoughts on the the relatively new Linksys DMA2200 Microsoft-based v2 Media Extender. Overall Chris seems pleased with the form factor and basic extender functionality, though he dings the unit for lacking more comprehensive media format playback capabilities:
The stars have clearly aligned for me with Slacker. Yesterday I spoke with Jonathan Sasse at the company for an update on Slacker happenings. During which conversation I discovered that Slacker is actually now available on my Squeezebox now. And finally, today my Slacker portable player arrived in the mail. Hooray!
VidaBox has added Blu-ray and HD DVD ripping and streaming capabilities to its media centers, which will be on display in Demo Alley room 240A at EHX this week.
So maybe the official headline is YouTube Coming To TiVo… But the interesting news here is that the announcement is exclusive to TiVo Series3 and HD units. We already know these newer devices have chips capable of decoding more than just MPEG-2 video, and perhaps TiVo is getting ready to flip the switch “later this year.” If so, how else might they utilize this… An improved movie download service, more video podcast options, streaming my own computer-dwelling video?
