Durabrand DVD Home Theatre System Help

I recently bought this device but i cannot seem to be able to get any sound from all of the speakers when i want to watch my cable channels. The surround sound from all the speakers only work when I play a dvd or a cd music disc. What can I do to get the surround sound from all my speakers when watching cable?

Hi jrricky,

We'll have you up and running in no time, but we need to find out a little more about your setup.

If you're not getting any sound from your cable channels, I'll need to know what device acts as your cable tuner (the TV, cable box, VCR, TiVo, etc.), and how you connected the audio from that device to the back of the home theater system. What kind of cable did you use, and where is it plugged in to each device?

Hi ron1966,

I'll pose the same question to you that I did the original poster of this thread.  If you're not getting any sound from your TV channels, I'll need to know what device acts as your TV tuner (the TV, cable box, VCR, TiVo, etc.), and how you connected the audio from that device to the back of the home theater system. Hi
I have just bought the Durabrand SA51AR 5.1 Home Theatre System, but it doesn't seem to be compatible with my TV, DVD player or SKY+ tv box. The SA51AR has 3 pairs of input cables but all my equipment only has 2 output. The cables are red and white in colour. Can you help?

Hey,

Hey,
I just installed the same system and can only get the surround sound to work with the DVD player. Here is how I have ours hooked up right now. The VCR is hooked to our coax cable (Antenna In) then a coax cable from the VCR out to the TV In. From the VCR Audio Out L, Audio Out R, Video Out (Red, White, Yellow) I connected these to the DVD Audio In L, Audio In R, Video In. From the DVD player I connected the Audio Out L, Audio Out R, Video Out (Red, White, Yellow) to the TV Audio In L, Audio In R, Video In....I'm stumped. please help.
P.S. on this particular DVD player there are no S-cable hook-ups or coaxial hook-ups. My only remaining ports are a Y-port(green), Ps-port(blue), Pr(red), aand a digital audio output(orange). THANKS!!

I have misplaced the remote

I have misplaced the remote control for my Durabrand 2004 model or the Durabrand 2005 model. I am not sure which model it is. Can you tell me where I could purchase the Durabrand remote control for either one of these modles? A universal remote contral does not work.

Thank you.

After looking at the first 8

After looking at the first 8 blogs posted, we don't feel so damn stupid. Has anyone figured out how to get the sound through the tv too? Is it even possible? Or did we all just get ripped?

What do you mean "it doesn't matter how it's connected." That's the only thing that matters.

Without knowing what device tunes your cable, I can't give you instructions on how to do it. I can, however, give you the basic principle.

You'll either use a TV or set-top box (DVR, cable box, VCR, etc) to tune your cable channels.  You need to plug the audio ouput of that device into the audio input on the sound system. Turn on the sound system and select that input.

If you're using a TV, some sets don't have audio outputs. If so, you'll need to use a set top box to tune your cable. Some TVs have a setting in the menu to turn on the audio output. You won't get sound until you do.

Also, if someone would post a picture of the back panel of this "Durabrand" audio system, that would be helpful.

Technically, you could use the headphone jack. You'll need a 1/8" to RCA cord to plug in to your audio system. Then, make sure the volume on both the TV and audio system are up.

MATT CAN YOU PLEASE HELP ME.

MATT CAN YOU PLEASE HELP ME. I HAVE A SANYO DS24205 TV WITH THE AUDIO JACKS ON THE FRONT, AND IS ALSO CABLE READY RESULTING IN NO BOX. I HAVE THE DURABRAND STS98RW DVD HOME THEATER SYSTEM. I BOUGHT AN RF MODULATOR TO HOOK UP THE TWO DEVICES. AND I TOO, AM HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AS OTHER FOLKS. SURROUND SOUND ONLY WORKS WITH DVDS OR CDS. WILL A DIGITAL AUDIO COAX FIX THE PROBLEM? I DO KNOW THERE IS ONLY 1 VIDEO CHANNEL WHEN YOU PUSH THE TV INPUT BUTTON ON THE REMOTE.THE BACK OF THE HOME THEATER SYSTEM HAS THE POWER CORD, COLOR CODED SLOTS FOR EACH SPEAKER AND AUDIO IN AND OUT, VIDEO IN AND DIGITAL AUDIO I THINK.

Candace,

First, please don't type in all caps. It's considered rude in just about every forum. It's even in the site rules:  http://www.techlore.com/help/forum_policy

Second, your TV does not have any form of audio output. The jacks on the front are INPUTS, not outputs. So, if you rely on the internal tuner to watch your cable TV, there's no way to get the sound out of the TV and to your audio system. In your case, there's not even a headphone jack to work with.

If you want to hear sound while watching cable TV, you'll need to use a cable box, DVR, TiVo, or even an old VCR instead of the tuner in the TV. All of those other devices have audio outputs that can be routed to your audio system.

Sorry for all caps. Its a habit that i use even when printing. I was told it was a left handed, right brained thing.I bought a digital audio cable. Is it possible to hook my ihome up for this use. It does have an audio out jack. If so, will it only play through the ihome speakes or both the ihome and surround sound? Do i just hook the cable to audio out on the ihome and to digital audio on the home theater system.

Okay, let's slow down a bit and figure it out before you go buying
stuff. mmmkay?

A few questions:

Let's start with the goal. Your first post made it sound
like you wanted to get the sound for your TV channels to come out of
your surround system. Is that correct?

Currently, you watch cable through the TV's tuner. There's no cable box or DVR in the mix. Correct?

I'm pretty up to date on stuff, but I don't know exactly what you mean by your "ihome." Are you talking about an iHome iPod Dock? Can you be specific about what you're talking about, perhaps a web link to a product page so I can be on the same page?

CANDACE
Yes my goal is to get sound

Yes my goal is to get sound from my cable tv channels through the surround sound. And you are correct about the tv as well. It is cable ready so my coax connects directly into the back of the tv.

My ihome is an ipod dock. Its actually an iStereo iP915 made by KODA. It was bought from Wal-Mart. I would rather not hook it up this way if other options will work. I have an extra dvd player still in the box but am open to any suggestions

CANDACE
I also have a set of 2.1

I also have a set of 2.1 channel speakers from coby in the closet. There are 2 satellite speakers, right and left, and a subwoofer. On the back of the subwoofer there is 1 audio input and a (L) and (R) audio output. Would this be any help

Great, thank you for the clarification. Now, let's think through this for a moment...

How do you believe connecting an iPod dock to your surround system will
result in letting you hear cable TV channels?

Think about it this way. In order for the iPod dock to send the sound from the TV's cable tuner to the surround system, you'd still need to get the sound out of the TV and into the iPod dock. Of course, if you could do that, then you wouldn't need the iPod dock!

Therein lies the problem. The only device you have that can tune in your cable channels, the tuner in the TV, doesn't have any audio outputs.

So, we need a different cable TV tuner... one with audio outputs. Your iPod dock doesn't have one of those (you can't plug your cable line into it), and neither does a DVD player (a DVD recorder would though, but that's probably not what you have). Your other speakers don't tune TV, either. You need something like a cable box, DVR, TiVo, VCR, or a new TV with audio outputs. There's no other way around it.

CANDACE

Oookkaaayyyyy. Now i see. I was so missing the obvious need for something to plug the cable line into. I was only looking for the little audio out jack. Thanks so much!!! Now i just have to find a cable box or vcr, etc.

Help! Bought a Durabrand HT

Help! Bought a Durabrand HT 395 and hooked it up to a 28" RCA TV and
SONY DVD player (both fairly new) and now the TV rolls frequently and
we often get a distorted band across the top of the screen. We do NOT
have a VCR attached. Any ideas? The rolling is driving us insane. By
the way, the sound is excellent. Thanks!

Thanks & Regards

ok, I bought the durabrand

ok, I bought the durabrand home theater system second hand as part of a package deal with a t.v.. The guy that sold it to me had it working without a hitch. I recently unplugged it, because I bought a new power strip with a surge protector in it. All I did was unplug the main cord, and now it will not work at all. There's power going to it, but no sound will come out. I think it has something to do with pressing a button on a certain channel, but idk...my boyfriend is ready to trash it and spend a fortune on a new system, but I am convinced it's something really simple and stupid...PLEASE HELP!!
