Sharp 55R-WP4H Channel Cut Off

I just had a COMCAST cable visit & for once I had a decent tech. However, after he adjusted the cable box setup I realized I have a few channels which show up with a bar on the right side of the screen. I tried adjusting with all the view mode options as well as playing with the cable box YPbPr outputs (curent setting TV TYPE 16:9, YPbPr 720p, 4:3 Override STRETCH). I know some channels aren't always hi-def but this is really annoying especially since its on ESPN! Finally, I've been trying to access the horizontal adjust menu but the set will not let me access. Can anybody help? I'm about to throw this thing out the window. Other than that I love the set & service!

mcastadman,

Pleasure to meet a fellow Sharp CRT rear-pro owner. Believe it or not, I own a Sharp 55-RWP5H. It's basically the same TV as the 4H, but with a few extra bells and whistles. I also have Comcast HD cable service, so we should be looking at the same thing.

When watching ESPN, you say the bar is only on the right side of the screen? Can you take a screen shot and post it to this thread using the "Add Images" link directly above the text box? I'll compare that to what my display looks at when tuned to ESPN, and we'll go from there.

Good to see someone else

Good to see someone else thought the Sharp was a good choice! I am attaching a few screen shots.
Screen 1---ESPN (Top right gets cut off)
Screen 2---ESPN (Top right gets cut off) another image
Screen 3---This is the setting I have on my COMCAST HD Box.

Any recommendation would be great! THX!

Great shots. I think your

Great shots. I think your problem is that the TV can display HD signals in one of two display modes. Right now, it looks like it's being stretched twice: once by the cable box, and again by the TV. Click the "VIEW MODE" button on the remote, and that should fix you up.

However, there are few easy things you can do to drastically enhance your performance. Change the setting in your cable box for the YPbPr output to 1080i instead of 720p. Though the Sharp is 720p compatible, it is not a 720p native display. This means the TV downconverts to a lower format for display (and not well either). The Sharp is 480p/1080i native, so you haven't yet seen how good this TV can look. ;-)

Second, change the 4:3 override to 480i or 480p. This will allow you to use the TVs "VIEW MODE" button to control how the image is stretched to fill the screen. Smart Stretch is the obvious choice, which will work with either 480i or 480p material. Try both, and see which display format looks best.

Try that and post back fellow Sharp owner.

I need info/instructions on

I need info/instructions on how to adjust the screen to enable us to see the 'score ticker' at the bottom of the screen during football games. Its also where the school closings run. As is now, only enough shows that you know its there.
