RCA R52WH74 IT SHUTTS OFF

I have RCA 52" with power supply problem when you push the power button the green light keeps blinking and the set doesn't come on wonder if there is a common problems with the 2006 model R52WH74

MOtvGuy
This set had lots of common

This set had lots of common problems.  Not the least of which is fluid leaking out of one of the tubes onto the crt board and corroding it.

what about the flyback if the

what about the flyback if the tubes have no leakes could the flyback cause it.thank you

MOtvGuy
Yes a flyback could but these

Yes a flyback could but these sets have had a number of problems causing dead set symptoms.  SSB boards, problems on the deflection board in the power supply, etc.

MY TV HAS HAS A COLOR PROBLEM

MY TV HAS HAS A COLOR PROBLEM I THINK IS THE STK CONVERGENCE BUT I CANT FIND IT ON THE BOARD PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT THIS PIECE LOOKS LIKE ON THIS TV AND WHERE I CAN FIND IT

everbraun if the model number

everbraun if the model number of your set is R52WH74 it doesnt have convergence ICs a convergence problem with that model will almost always be a resistor on the convergence power supply or if the convergence option is missing from the on screen display replace FL231, DL231 and CL230 on the deflection board

slinteriors i have a set with

slinteriors i have a set with a similar problem the tech came out an said it needed a "power board" part# 272074 (power / deflection board ) which is no longer available. So my question is do you know of a common problem in this board to where i can order the parts and just fix the board myself to save this tv?

slinteriors
Yes I am very famillar with

Yes I am very famillar with that chassis. Can you describe what its doing? and I will assist you and let you know where you can get just the components that you need to repair the issue and they also send instructions on how to do the repair.

First i would like to thank

First i would like to thank you for you're fast reply. The set started acting up at first you could power it on every thing would be fine then it would shut its self off aprox 10 - 15 min later. now if you press the power button it will start to power on but shut off after aprox 5 seconds. I have been looking online for replacemnet boards and from what the tech said is everybody is having problems getting parts from rca and they no longer make it.

slinteriors
That chassis is famous for

That chassis is famous for needing CP150 and CP114 replaced along with possibly the flyback. The good thing is that You can get the parts at the following link with free instructions. http://servicemanuals.vstore.ca/
First though I would just recomend reflowing the solder on the flyback. If you send me a email to [email protected] I will send you the instructions on how to remove the deflection board and show you where the flyback is, as it may correct the issue just by resoldering the flyback connections

I am have been having a bad

I am have been having a bad problem with this RCA TV. Model #R52WH74. In 2006 I bought the Tv new from WalMart. It worked great for the first year. I have three boys and they loved it. Exactly 12 months after buying it the power started messing up on it. It cuts it's self off after about 15 seconds. After that first time of turning it on it doesn't even stay on for that long. When I unplug it and let it sit for a few hours I can turn it back on and it will last about 5 seconds. The TV has been stored covered in my garage since it went out the first time. I do not have the money to take it to a repair show. I do know some about electronics. I studied television repair in high school years ago. Is there any way I can fix it myself. I have seen so many people writing blogs about how bad this model is. I would like to try to save the TV. Can you please, please, please help me???

I also have an RCA TV. Model

I also have an RCA TV. Model #R52WH74 and it won't turn on. It started having a double image and then now when I try to turn it on it makes a short high pitched sound a couple of times and won't turn on. I checked FL231 and it is closed. Can anyone point me in the right direction to this problem?

Thanks,

EB

Thats usually caused by the

Thats usually caused by the HOT transistor 2SC5588 especially if the sharp chirp is in relation to each time the led lights up.

Hey I did replaced FL231,

Hey I did replaced FL231, DL231 and CL230 cause of missing convergence in Menu. I even relow the solder on the Flyback...Now it powers up then u see red, green and blues line across top then it shuts off...Where do I go now!!! Help.!!!

Hey slinteriors:

I ordered and installed a new Toshiba 2SC5588 and I still have the same problem. The short chirps are in relation to each time the LED lights up. When I plug in the set I get the chirps three times with 5 second pauses in between and then nothing. No power after that. I tried holding down the power button on the front of the set immediately after plugging in the set and the LED gave me a code of 1-9, one long and nine short flashes.

I haven't been able to find the service manual for this set so I don't know what the code means. Any ideas?

Thanks,

EB

19 is the code for unvalid

19 is the code for unvalid chassis, but you will get that by holding the power button down. Did you check the old 2SC5588 to see if it was shorted or open which could indicate the Flyback is defective and killing the HOT transistors?

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. Happy Holidays. I am a rookie at this and really don't know how to test that HOT transistor or the Flyback. I could try to check it if I knew how. I was able to find a "Field Service Manual" online for the ITC222 chassis which tells me on pages 96, 99 and page 102 that it is the Horizontal Linearity Coil LL037 / LL029

I found the manual by reading a description of another owner who had the same problem. However my set has a tag on the back that lists my chassis as ITC222A. I also found one of your posts on Fixya.com where you wrote that these chassis are the same. I am not sure about anything since I am so new at this. What do you think?

Thats usually related to

Thats usually related to squealing a little super glue will cure that if its the coil. The ITC222 and ITC222A are virtually the same chassis there are a few slight differences but for the most part they are the same.

Well, yea it's more of a squeal than a chirp it sounds like: cheeweee....cheeweee... every 5 seconds 3 times and it stops. It starts immediatly when I plug the set in. Please tell me, cause now I am dying to know that superglue trick. :) Also do you think I blew the new 2SC5588?

EB

slinteriors
Just coat the coils with

Just coat the coils with superglue and let dry if the squeal goes away and the set powers up your good to go. If not then chances are its not either of the coils causing it. But the coils will make it squeal, where as a short sharp chirp like a bird is usually related to the HOT and or Flyback.

My RCA R52WH74 just cuts off

My RCA R52WH74 just cuts off after a little bit. I let it cool off then it will come back on for just a bit. I called a local shop and they said it was the deflector board. Is this true? I have had no other problems with this tv at all. Hate to see the money we spent on it a few years ago go to waste. Really don't have the money to get a new tv. Any help will be greatky appreciated. Thanks

My RCA R52WH74 just cut off

My RCA R52WH74 just cut off on its own last night. After cooling off it is able to be cut back on but cuts off again within minutes. I called a local repair store and they said it was the deflection board. Is this true. Really don't have the money to replace the tv and hate to see money spent on it wasted. Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Yes the deflection board is

Yes the deflection board is famous for having issues with that chassis. You can get the replacement ITC222A Bar code PSB260 from www.tvrepairworld.com

My R52WH74 worked just fine

My R52WH74 worked just fine then it started as you watch it the picture fades out and then will come back in a bit but u still have volumne

My R52WH74 started turning

My R52WH74 started turning itself off would unplug then would work again, now wont power back on. Any ideas as what needs to fix?

I would check the solder

I would check the solder connections on the flyback. Very famous problem with the ITC222 and ITC222A Chassis TVs. If solder looks good i would suspect the small signal. Does the power indicator flash 3 times slowly then go out when you press power?

Gina68
I have the ITC222 chassis.

I have the ITC222 chassis. RCA Model HD52W59. Started having convergence problems til they got so bad it was far too aggravating to try to watch.
Auto convergence was still showing up in the menu, although alignment would never occur. Bought a kit and replaced the following: (1) FL231 Fuse,(1) FL221 Fuse,(1) FL251 Fuse & (1) CL230 Capacitor. 2 out of the 3 fuses were bad, but we replaced all from the kit. The flyback had cracks in several of the solder connections. Mind you, this flyback was a replacement from the time the tv crapped out 2-/+ years ago. The flyback was resoldered, tv was put back together. Initially tv didnt turn on, but then did after a couple tries. No improvement/change to convergence. Later when I went to get better details of the convergence issue, the tv would not turn on. Now the power light turns on briefly 3 times and it chirps each time. Replacing the tv isnt an option on a few levels. What other items can I replace to try to get this thing going again? Very grateful for any direction.

slinteriors
Ok if the auto convergence is

Ok if the auto convergence is listed in the setup menu, then the problem with no convergence control may be caused by the four 220K ohm resistors on the convergence power supply board ( upper left board when looking in the rear ) they are RP10, RP11, RP12, RP13 they are located right next to the large transformer on the left side of that board. The chirping is another issue which is most likely the HOT transistor ( TL010 ) if it chirps in relation to the power indicators light. If its a steady squealing sound though I would assume
the ll037 horizontal coil would be the problem. But I would check those 4 resistors on the conv power supply board, and then check the HOT transistor TL010.

slinteriors
Sorry some of the later

Sorry some of the later models had them listed as RP610, RP611, 612 & 613 still located in the same locations on that board.

Gina68
Hi, Thanks very much for

Hi, Thanks very much for reading my post and giving me a hand with this. Yes the chirp is relative to the power light flashing, its definitley not steady. Can you tell me what this 'H.O.T.' looks like and where I can find it on the board? I am assuming the part number would be present on it too? What does 'H.O.T.' stand for anyway?

slinteriors
The HOT transistor is the "

The HOT transistor is the " Horizontal Output Transistor " It os located at Tl010 its attched to the large aluminun heat sink with the fins directly in front of the flyback and slightly to the left . It will have a C5588 stamped onto the transistors body indicating that its a 2SC5588 transistor. If you need more assistance send me a email [email protected] and I can send a picture of where the components should be checked out to get the set working properly.
