I have recently had the red circle on my 50v500. I have called Hitatchi 3 times and have not received any help. I was even hung up on. On my third call, I didn't even have to tell the rep my problem she already knew. That is terrible, they already know why you are calling and already set not to help! I did purchase my set in 2004 but have always had problems. No the tv will not even turn on. If you purchase a tv with a defective part, it should be replaced no matter the age. I was told to mail the appeals dept. Has anyone had any luck latey, in 2009?
I was one of the original posters to this thread who went through two light engines and fought with Hitachi to resolve. Needless to say I will never buy one of their products again. This is a classic exercise in how not to do customer service.
I think this whole thread should be mailed by the moderator to the President of Hitachi US, VP of Customer Service and the Attorney General's office in all the relevent states. They need to be help accountable and they are still trying to stonewall and avoid doing the right thing which long ago should have been a publicized recall.
I bought my 50vx500 in May 2004. Went through the red blob and a lamp. Now I have the whole screen showing green. I am done with this tv. I was wondering if any of you recommend the new led tvs or should I stick with LCD?
I have a nine year old mitshibushi VS 80601 rear projection HD tv.
The green lens has just stopped working. I was getting some blue halos prior to it going out. Is it worth fixing or should the TV be replaced?
Wow - thanks everybody.
I was looking at TV adds today in the flyers after I couldn't take the ridiculing from friends about the yellow tinge to the TV!
Nobody else has mentioned a yellow tinge, just red and blue blobs.
Is mine the same problem?...light engine
Ideas?
To brianm1962, could you please email me the email address to the President of Hitachi. I have the large blue spot on our screen for months and I have been unable to work something out with Hitachi for replacement of the engine light.

I just took my set in for the same thing early last week. Tech told me that the light engine was warped/bad and needed a new one. Price of the light engine was somewhere are 500 bucks & with labor it brought the total to $953. I couldn't justify spending that kind of money on a older tv when I could buy something newer/flatter/lighter for the same price.

Hello
I have had this same problem and repaired twice and it is time again. Could you please email me the Hitachi USA President's information. I have also contacted the lawfirm mentioned earlier and was told through email that they are not taking any new clients for this and if a class acton is allowed everyone who has bought one of these sets will be contacted.
I have a 50 inch Hitachi LCD and had a red spot and the light engine was replaced 2 years ago. Now I have a blue spot in the middle. Is this another light engine problem?

I sure would like to be able to contact USA Hitachi President. I got my letter back from Hitachi saying that they will have 60 days to review my out of warranty request to repair my light engine for the third time. I will keep you updated as to the outcome.
Hi there, i am after the blue filter from out of a 50vx500 light engine can you get hold of these ? I am aware we can only get these second hand. i just brought a red one from a tv repair shop for $19 shipped.
thanks
Jason
I don't know about anything obtaining a filter. "I got my letter back from Hitachi saying that they will have 60 days to review my out of warranty request to repair my light engine for the third time". I will keep you updated as to the outcome. I have gotten my verdict back from Hitachi and they said in different words than I will use, "go f#@k yourself".I sure hope Hitachi can be held accountable in the near future through class action or some other method. Now I am in the market for a new television before NFL season starts. What brand or specific set are people having good luck with?
Thank You
Hi eltabor, Just to give you heads up on your Light Engine. I have done so much research on this darn thing so i could fix it myself and rectify any future problems. I can tell you like you said...Hitachi wont give a crap about your t.v now since its been years since manufacture.I am a Computer Tech/Programmer and like to specialize in laptops more so. This is why i am repairing my own and to be honest it is rather simple...but looks hard. The main problems are 2 out of 3 filters used in the light engine melting. this is due to poor ventilation and dust causing blockages in the tiny little filter hole they made for it to suck air through, it maybe 2 inches round if you're lucky and is on the bottom of the light engine, and because of this it creates extreme temperatures in the light engine and causing all these havocs. like i said...2 out of 3 filters usually melt, first to go is the blue and then the red. I am lucky i just got the red one yesterday and will find the blue one soon from tv repair shop that has stripped many of these down. My suggestion to you is to take off the back cover and look and see if you think you can dismantle it yourself to fix it if you dont want to spend big bucks, i can even send you dismantling guide for your light engine also if this would help you.
hopefully this might give you a better look on things to what you may or should do.
Keep in touch
Jason
Could you send me the dismantling guide. How do you find the filters, just call around to some repair shops? We have been through Hitachi's process and haven't been able to get our TV repaired.
Thank you

Hi tvhelpneeded, send me a private message with your email and i will forward it to you. I have the dismantling guid and the manual, 2 seperate files.
As for finding the parts...yes you have to call around all tv repair store. the guy i got my red filter from actually had around 10 blue filters last month but has sold them all since. If you find a store that has some blue filters, then let me know incase i havnt had time to phone the whole country lol.
Folks I've been through two of these Hitachi light engine failures and the ensuing cluster*(#! to get Hitachi to replace them. Now my current one is going all blue and about to become unwatchable,
They have made a lemon and are hoping it just rolls away. Can we get some sort of class/action petition going here? Can anyone start a Facebook or other site where all the 100's and 1000's of us suckers can try and get some redress?
Other than that I'm just going to throw it it the trash and save my money for a Samsung, Sony or LP.

I don't have time to facebook, but I am in favor of holding Hitachi accountable. What HDTV do you own now and what is your opinion of it?
Thank You

I have Hitachi 57 in. projection TV M#57UWX20B it now has no Red or Green. i HAVE Tried the Magic Focus button with no results. Any help would be appreciated. Do I need to purchase a new TV??????.
I think buying a new set is the only option, but I am not sure about the cost or worthiness of a repair. I have been viewing sets in the stores and I like the Panasonic Plasma VT25. I am no expert, just a television viewer, but I think it is remarkable in 2D and 3D. Let your own eyes be the judge. Another point that I am not absolutely sure of is that Panasonic assumed rights to the Pioneer Kuro technology and has begun incorporating it in their line with this set.
pwalsh01, I need a make and model of the set to help you And an e-mail

I am interested in your guides and where to obtain the filters. Would it be wise to replace all the filters at the same time?

Thanks.
