I am replying to you with a question since you just fixed you convergence problems. I own the exact Phillips you have and I am replacing the stk392-120 ic's. I was told that you should also replace the (two) resistors that are part of the convergence as well. They are 6.8 ohms and are 1 watt. Do you know what numbers on the circuit board is the two resistors that need to be replaced? I think 3151 and 3152? Just a guess? Do you remember? I own a 60pp93-5217 Phillips hdtv. all the 6.8 oms resistors should be replaced , can you adjust all of the convergence settings with the remote ? red-blue-multi-point ? if all where take-off upper cover go into converge settings adjust cross hairs off abit if there fuzzy there,s a black box attached to crt bracket /top three adjustment screws are for color / bottom are for focus , adjust red so the cross-hair is crisp then go to blue convergence do the same, the black box is marked r-b-g i did it this way didn,t have someone to watch front of the tv seemed to worked for me, make sure you can do all the convergence first if the red&blue multi-point wont adjust you,ll have to change the other 10 6.8 oms resistors first there numbered 3149 thu 3160 then do the focus adjustment .
I finally fixed the whole Multipoint problem, I opened the back up and looked at all of the lenses. Seem to be find until i spotted some leaking.. Then i found that the rubber washers wasn't put on right. The guy that fixed out tv last time put it on wrong. So I added some of that liquid, and fixed the washers. worked fine until few months. I called the repair man and i had same problems.. Multipoint, darkness and so on and on. Apperently the fluid i put in was a different mixture and it created bubles. I cleaned it out and I filled it up with Baby oil. Baby oil can be used too u know.
There is a square box in the back of the set. It has 6 adjustable screws for settings. There are three for focus and three for color. The center screw for color is the green.
2) Buy the exact same chip that was in your set. Magnavox sets typicaly have STK329-110 or STK392-120. Don't substitue, upgrade, etc the chips no matter what you read. If you put a different chip in the set it will most likely smoke the resistors.
3) Replace all 12 of the convergence resistors. Every day a dozen or more people complain that their set is still broken after replacing the convergence chips. The number one reason is that they did not replace the resistors. Replace all 12 even if they don't look burnt. Testing with a meter is not reliable because the resistors often fail once under load.
4) Check/Double-Check your soldering. Make sure its clean and does not have any bridged connections.
If you do the above your set will be fixed.
Actually this does not work for my problem, it didn't change a thing and I do not advise doing so, when it goes bad throw it away, they are all junk anyway.
Did you ever get that Philips fixed? If so, what did you end up doing. I have the exact same set with the same problem and am trying to figure on whether I should just try to replace the resistors first before I go changing out the ICs.

No way. I don't need soldering iron, wick, thermal paste, manual, instructions, etc. I just need the ICs. I found the STK392-180's on ebay brand new with a one year warranty for 8.99. I know how to put them in as I have worked with chips and boards before. I used to create my own amplifiers and equalizers. All together I spent 23 bucks as opposed to 65.00 on tvrepairkits.com. For somebody not experienced enough, I would say it's a good choice. But their is so much info out their that with a little bit of effort their is always a cheaper alternative. I think I am even going to install a 12VDC fan over the heat sinks just for extra precaution.
How do you know they are original IC's and not the cheap or (as they sound like they are) the aftermarket or factory reject ic's? for 10 bucks a pop they cannot be original Sanyo IC'S they just sell for a lot more tan 10 bucks a piece!! and yes you will still need thermal paste for the backs of the new IC'S how do you know you do not need any resistors or pico fuses? Good luck with those IC'S
I haven't checked the resistors yet. That was part of my previous question. I know I need thermal paste, I meant that I already had it as well as an iron and solder. The ICs come with a one year warranty, so if they crap out, I'll just send them back.
my tv craped out again after a year ! i bought those cheap ic- chips stk392-180s they arent the correct chips for the philips tv also OEM ic-chips the pt# printing is a lt gray color not bold white printing the aftermarket companys use, also stick with the orginal ic-chip number because so called upgraded ic-chips dont match the 120,s spec,s, replace the 12 omh resistors and ic-chips the same time or you,ll be taking apart again after the repair you.ll have to reset the convergence settings
i recently had troubel with my phillips 60pp920217F. The picture would do a 3-D red bend flash once warmed up. I changed ic chips, fixed 2 bad resistors. And now no 3-d flash but i have bad color( its like ashy with a little green and pink, i adjusted the multipoints . Still no good color its almost like a black white picture. i checked the projector lenses and they are crystal clear. Tubes look fine. checked all connectors to the board i pulled out. any body have ideas what it could be???????? and also what about the little manual color/focus box in the back of tv ?
i keep on replacing the stks on my 43pp920217 i put a fan on it but i guess some how it is to hot still anyone has any suggestions im about to change some of the 6.8 ohms that were open please help thank u
Don't forget to replace your resistors before you put in the new IC's and turn it on. You could screw yourself out of some cash. Not a hard fix. Hardest part is getting the board out of the TV to fix it, really.

You may want to consult a technician before doing so.

There is a square box in the back of the set. It has 6 adjustable screws for settings. There are three for focus and three for color. The center screw for color is the green.
