thanks anyway...

OK- My brother-in-laws Sony

OK- My brother-in-laws Sony does the 9-flash thing too. I have replaced the diodes and it still will not power up.

I have a question, though:
Since the voltage coming out of the 'G' board is rectified and filtered, what use is the zero crossing detector?

The only thing I can think of is so that the set will not power up if the lines aren't the correct frequency (In Europe, or running off a generator, maybe).

Does anybody here know *exactly* what the parameters for the ZERO_DET waveform are?

The reason I ask is because it appears that the zero crossings are not happening at exactly zero, and the pulses, while they are at 120Hz, are not perfectly symmetrical. If you take the rising (or falling) edge of alternate pulses, they will be 16.66 mS apart, but adjacent pulses are coming in at around 7.5 mS or so.

Do these pulses have to be absolutely spot on at 8.33 mS?

TIA, bry

just replace the two diodes

just replace the two diodes instead of trying to redesign the TV set!

I did- twice. At first, all I

I did- twice. At first, all I had was 1n914 diodes, and that didn't work, then I ordered the same MMDL914T1 that were listed on the schematic.

I have scoped the ZERO_DET signal coming from the 'G' board, and the levels are nice (open-collector output pulled up to 5v by resistor on 'A' board).

I have looked at the circuit on the 'A' board as it pertains to the ZERO_DET signal- the 10K0 pullup is working, the 100 ohm resistor inline with the input pin (pin 19 on the MCU) is good, and I even looked at the terminals and crimps on the cable which connect the two boards.

I was only curious as to why an essentially DC operated TV set would require a zero-crossing detector.

The only thing I can see wrong is that the ZERO_DET waveform coming off the 'G' board, looks good in every respect *except* that it is not a perfectly symmetrical wave. I think this is due to my ZERO_DET not outputting at exactly 0 volts, except I don't know what else I can do to fix it.

What I do know is that while the time between any two rising edges might not be exactly 8.33 mS, the time between every OTHER rising edge will be exactly 16.66 mS, meaning it is, in fact, a 120Hz signal.

I was not trying to reengineer the set- I was wondering if it might be worth it to generate such a signal in order to rule out different parts of the set- AFAIK, the input pin on the MCU could be smoked, and I'm just spinning my wheels.

Thanks again, bry

KP-51WS520, nine blinks. I

KP-51WS520, nine blinks. I removed the board, but the diode noumbers do not correspond. I found the d6301, but the only other one close to it is d6109.
There are two other diodes on other end of board d6006 and d6007. Which ones
need replaced, and what are part nos? Thank You

Nine blinks - Replace D 6116

Nine blinks - Replace D 6116 and D 6301 on the "G" board, do not resolder as this will fix the problem temporary. Or Panel Module Error or Thermal Error. If it is intermittent 9 blinks, meaning sometimes the TV comes on and other times you get flashing, then change the switching regulator on the "G" board or check connections. Make sure the regulator is -12 or -13 (negative). The G board part number is A-1054-157-A. My suppliers say this board is no longer available from Sony, BUT wait! I did find rebuilt boards available at a place called PTS electronics. The phone number is 1-800-844-7871 Good Luck and let us know how you made out with this repair. Oh by the way, here are the diode part numbers and generic part numbers, and they can be purchased at www.partstore.com
REF. NO. SONY PART NO. DESCRIPTION GENERIC PART NUMBERS

That manual is available or at least one very close to it in the tehnicians corner download secion. and there is a whole thread, that explains the repair for your 9 blink problem. Good luck

I've been reading through all

I've been reading through all the postings on the 9 blink code for the Sony
KP-51WS520. I can get mine to come on eventually, but it sounds like the same problem with the 2 diodes needing to be replaced. There's just one problem.
www.partstore .com doesn't carry these parts any longer. Can anyone help me. After all, the unit is only 4 years old.

Thanks, Dave

With the nine blinks issue.

With the nine blinks issue. Quick fix I did it on my sony KP57WS520 Cut one pin on the D6301 diode move it just a little so there is no contact reinstall the G-Board TV powered right up

It seems that the issue was

It seems that the issue was how the manufacturing process "attached" the diode more so than a batch of faulty parts.

It has been over a month now since my fix and everything is still A-OK!

I have the exact same problem

I have the exact same problem with my Sony KP51WS520. Is this "quick fix" something that a non-technician could do? If so, could you kindly explain how to repair this D6301 and where it's located on the G-Board?

Thank you

cyberhomie
Can anyone else confirm that

Can anyone else confirm that the quick fix actually works?
