My neighbor gave me a Philips rear projection TV. It has a convergence problem. If you go to the convergence screen you can adjust the red and blue, but no option to adjust the green. If I cover the green crt, the screen looks good other then the colors. Uncover the green crt and the red and blue stay the same, but the green won't match up with the other colors. Green bows down at the top middle and up at the bottom middle.I have an Idea what it is, but I would like a confirmation before I order parts! IC-STK392-120 Thanks...Rick1590
Kinda like this!

GOOD PICTURE

If you mean the convergence menu in the customer menu, no, there isn't a way to adjust the green. You'll need to repair the convergence issue with the STK IC's to correct the green problem. Green can be adjusted in the service convergence menu.
Thanks for the answers guy's! I can't find anything on the internet listed as STK394-150
I can find STK392-150 and STK394-250 Is this a better IC then the original STK392-120 ?
Hello again. Just reading up on IC's on the internet. From what I see,STK394-160E is a upgrade for STK392-120. It says it operates 5 degrees cooler then the 120. Would this be the right IC to install on my Philips 60pp920217? Thanks for your time! Rick
We are Philips certified, and we have never used the stk394-160E. Any of the stk394-??? up to the stk394-180's have worked fine, i would not use stk394-250, i am not sure if the circuitry is the same. Be careful because just ordering another stk394- anything may not even be the same ic. If you stick with what i have said you will be fine, this is a known fix. The highest numbered known ic is the stk394-180. I am not going to recommend the stk394-160E because i have no experience with this ic as a replacement in Phillips televisions. Stick to the stk394-150 or stk394-180.
Thanks for getting back to me zapdbf, I take it you mean STK392 series, not STK394. I googled STK394-150 and -180 and got nothing. If I google STK392-150 or 180 I get some IC's, Sony and Sanyo. Which of these chip manufacturers is the best fit for my Philips? Sorry for all the questions, But I want to get this fix right before I do it. I took out the board and it has two STK392-120's on it, not 394 series. Thanks again for your responces...Rick
Yes, it is stk392 sorry, i don't know why i did that.
Just not paying attn. sorry. Sanyo is good. and either 150's or the 180's will work fine.
Thank you very much for all of your help! I will post my progress threw this fix as it happens. I know I will be back asking for the service codes for this set. Convergence will need to be adjusted after I replace the IC's. I've learned that through this site, You guys are awesome!!! ....Rick
Hi,
I have a Philips model# 60pp935217. I have a problem with the color converge. The manual color converge no longer works for either color and the picture is curved with red shadows. Does this mean the convergence board needs to be replaced or could it be something more simple. Any help is greatly appreciated.
It is most likely the convergence ic's very common problem. On this board you will find allot of tips about this, your ic's will be similar it will be stk392-??? and all the posts regarding this should fit your problem as well.
OK, I replaced the stk"s on my Philips 60pp920217F and the convergence will not move in all directions in all the colors, even when in the service mode. I purchased a service manual and it said something about some fuses on the SSM board.(convergence Board) Do you happen to know the number of these fuses on the printed circuit board? Also, are these Pico 5 amp fuses like my sony big screen has? Thanks for your help!!!!...Rick
They are not fuesd like sony. But they do have fuses on the power supply. i need to look it up in the manual, i will get this for you.
I really appreciate all your help! maybe this thing will come back to life without to much more fixing!
Thank you very much for your time and knowledge! Looking forward to hearing about the fuses and there location. It will give me something to do on the weekend! Rick
zapdbf, any luck on locating those fuses for me? Thanks...Rick
ok, after looking at the layout, i realized what board this was, check the following resistors, one may be open. 3161,3164,3163,3158,3157,3150,3149,3156,3155. One of these is open most likely. i have seen this before.
Thanks for getting back to me so quick! Could my probem be with 3151 and 3152? I get no reading on them and they are a little discolored. 3149+3150=182.3 ohms..3155+3156=3.4 ohms..3157+3158=3.4 ohms..3161=97.3 ohms..3163+3164=97 ohms ...3149 and 3150 must be open, right? Thanks, Rick
some of the readings you are giving me are strange. if 3151 and 3152 both show open, then defiantly, but some of the other values you are showing are not correct, but they are in-circuit, so this could throw off the readings. Try replacing the open resistors and see if your are good again. if not we should investigate the other resistors a little more carefully. 3151 is a 6.8 ohm 1 watt, although they have two different resistors here and i can't tell which one for your set. 3152 is also a 6.8 ohm 1 watt, make sure you get flameproof replacement
Ok, I will look around the web and order these resistors. Any suggestions on where 2 get them? Thanks, Rick
according to the schematic i have for a 43pp920217, resistors 3149 & 3150 are each 6.8ohms, 1W, metal film, and are connected in parallel. the same applies to 3151, 3152 and each succeeding pair up to 3160. strange. this seems to bear out the 3.4 ohm readings you get for 3155, 3156, 3157 & 3158. the rest of the readings seem to indicate open restistors. incidently, the ungrounded ends of each pair of 6.8 resistors connect to a 100 ohm and a 3300 ohm resistor which go on to connect to an input and an output of a convergence amp. also the 97 ohm reading happens to coincide with a 100 ohm parallel with a 3300 ohm resistor. this would indicate to me that the at least one of your amps are fried (shorted at the input & output). i have found 3157, 3158, 3159 & 3160 open on my tv. good luck.
these stk ic's has been known to run hotter on philips ptv chassis than on other brands.
take a 12vdc cpu fan and tie it on top of the convergence amp heatsink using an insulated hook-up wire. get the supply for the fan from the +12V supply for the vertical output ic. the fan should be positioned such that air is blowing upwards taking heat away from the heatsink. this will prolong the life of these stk's.
i visited with a certified philips tech. he said the resistors 3149 thru 3160 are all 6.8 ohms, 1w, 5%. the code is blue, gray gold, gold. he also said they change colors when they fry. mine (the 4 that fried) 2 were white, orange, black, gold. the other 2 were black, orange, black, gold. i find this weird but he insisted it that was the case. i did see little flecks of gold on the 3rd ring which looked black. how blue turns to white is beyond me. also, i would think they would all discolor uniformly, yet 2 were wt, or, bk, gold and the other 2 were bk, org, bk, gold. in any case, i'm relacing all 4 with 6.8, 1w, 5%, fusibles. i'm getting them from Digi-Key. good luck
This site is great I have a new Question mine just went out no screen at all. I opened up the back there is a pod with three wire coming out of the top when the tv is turned on there is a flash coming from underneith any suggestions. Ron
I just recently fixed my convergence problem and all colors line up, but now the picture is fuzzy. Looks like its out of focus a bit. Anyone know how to focus this tv. Is there a certain voltage to set each tube at? I am trying to do this myself if it is all possible. I am working on a Philips 60PP935217 TV. Mr.G
If anyone can help me figure out how to re-adjust the RGB setting on the Focus Block, I would do anything! Please. The colors are off a little. thanks guys
i have the same problem. i replaced the convergence amps successfully but the colrs are off. I put a white crosshatch signal into the set but cant get the lines to look white. light green is the best i can do. adding blue and/or red by turning them up on the focus block adjustments causes the screen to saturate and go black. my schematic was stored on a library computer but had been swept clean as of late. i'll let you know if i have any luck.

You can find the service manual DPTV305.pdf with schematics and parts list here:

Also the training manual below it if you are interested.
If you have your convergence problem solved and are dealing with colors being off, in this thread:
http://www.techlore.com/forum/thread/19129/Philips-60pp935217/
Larry describes how to get your focus and screen adjustments back, but first you may have to change contaminated green and blue (and maybe red?) coolant fluid, which you can inspect with a flashlight, while looking into the lenses.
That is what it took on my 55pp935217 to get the colors back.
The coolant change procedure is in the manual and detailed by Larry here:

Thanks alot Alnp, I found that my tint and sharpness are not adjusting at all from left to right in the menu. Something must be wrong with a curcuit or something.
i have a philips magnavox model fp5240 w101 chasis ptv710-ah01 and the red is droups in one spot and the red is stretch downward in the spot all the way down and i looked for the stk's and could not find them on the convergence board could you help me with this problem email me at [email protected]
My Problem is pretty similar, here we go..
the colors are off, in the multipoint the crosses kinda bend so they don't really align if i tired. they kinda align but not all the way.
Second thing is when there is a dark scene or anything in the dark, it is very hard to see almost as if the brightness is set low. Those settings are fine. i check but idk whats wrong with it. its a 60PP9202/17F Phillips?
I have a Problem Similar. When in Multipoint, the crosses kinda bend, and i tired to allign em. They still have colors around objects on the screen. And when there is a dark scene or something in the dark, u can hardly see anything.
Some guys came to check the tv few months ago and changed the liquid and when he programmed something there was this access code, whats the access code?
