No sound on some channels when using VCR

I have a Panasonic VCR (PV-V464S) and subscribe to Comcast standard cable. Just recently we started having trouble with the sound on some of the channels only when recording on our VCR or when watching our TV with the VCR on -- watching the TV directly w/o going through VCR is fine. The problems are that we get no sound at all on ABC, TNT & USA, WB goes in & out intermittantly, and Fox and Lifetime play sound but for the wrong channel.

why?

I am curious of a problem that I encounter with a number of different dvd players. Whether it be a Playstation or a home dvd player. At some point the player will stop reading certain discs. This one in particular will only play audio cds. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,

VCR to VCR recording

How do I record from VCR to VCR? I have to play on TV and record segments of multiple tapes onto one tape. I have the "player" hooked up to the TV. Now, the "recording" VCR: is it hooked up to the playing VCR or to the TV? What lines go where?

Toshiba SD4800 says "Loading"

Toshiba SD 4800 will not play dvds (any dvd). Only says "Loading" on the dvd's front display. What's up with that? Is there a master reset (hardware or software) that I can do?

Analog to digital conversion

Should I expect any significant degradation of quality if I convert my HI8 and 8mm tapes to digital using the pass through method on my Sony Vx2000?
